    Trailer Battery

    Hi All,

I'm a newbie, not to trailering, just a 5th wheel.

Here is my question regarding the RV battery. If the trailer connection to the truck remains connected when you are not driving (ex: an overnight stop), will the connection draw down my tow vehicle battery if the RV battery runs down. Do I run the risk of not being able to start my truck in the morning?

    Thanks
    Bob

Yes, it can draw down the truck battery.

It depends. Some trucks have a solenoid to prevenr this. Some do not.

Fords have a relay to disconnect the trailer battery when the truck's not running. GM's used to be hard-wired to the battery, don't know if they changed that the last few years.

I'm new to all of this too... so bear with my ignorance! I know boats... not RVs.

If your connected to your truck, will it supply 12 v power to the fridge instead of using LP ? FYI I have the norcold 4 door fridge. My boat uses a 12v / 120v setup... just curious if it has this feature.

And by connected to your truck you all are referring only the tail light connector cable correct ? This charges the battery as you drive ?

Your new Ford should come with a plastic bag containing a relay, fuse, and instruction sheet. Or ask the dealer to install them for you during their make-ready inspection. The 7-way trailer connector on the truck will then supply 12V to the trailer when the truck is running.

True 3-way refrigerators are small and I've only seen them in pop-ups. A full-size fridge needs 12V for the controller board and propane to run when off the grid.
