Washing with Dawn or Murphy's Oil
I have heard washing with either Dawn or Murphy's Oil is recommended.
1) What is the better choice or is there an alternative?
2) I have heard after washing, use wax (keeping away from the decals) or 303. Again what is the better choice?

Folks here all seem to have their favorite products. We use dish soap (whatever is handy, Dawn, Ivory, etc) and put Maguire’s Ceramic Protectant on a clean, damp flat mop to finish. We use Krud Kutter or a Mr. Clean eraser on black marks/bugs. If you look in each model forum, under exterior, you’ll see many threads on washing and waxing products. I used the search function, but I must not be using the same words others did when the threads were started. I know they’re there, I’ve read them! I wouldn’t put Murphy’s Oil Soap on the roof. It might leave it dangerously slick for walking on, and it’ll probably attract more dirt, soot, pollen, etc.

The problem with Dawn which is a degreaser, is it strips any wax or sealant on the surface leaving no protection. So much so many detailers will use Dawn as a cheap wax/sealant remover prior to fully polishing and waxing. The manufacturers of the 4-RV's I have owned have all recommended a good quality car/RV/boat wash solution.

good point on the Murphy's being slick - I would work front to back and stay off roof till it dries.
Not sure if rain later on would make it slick later on if I had to access the roof to check something in an emergency

I use Dawn on the roof & hose the sides off immediately. Then use Maguires car wash for the rest of the trailer. 303 the decals then wax. Being old & lazy, takes me about 3 days for all of it, but being retired I have the time.

You will get a multitude of answers and most is personal preference. There are many differing choices andmost do a very good job.
For our roof I use spic and span with a stiff brush on a broom type handle. On the exterior I use Maguires car wash which does a good job on the infamous "black streaks" with a good soft car washing wand/pole. I have been happy with the results of both.
The down side is it takes me about 3.5 to 4 hours to do wash the entire unit (roof and exterior)Last edited by GeoffnCheri; 05-17-2020 at 03:33 PM. Reason: spelling

For the roof, I use Simple Green or Murphy's Oil Soap (both are recommended by Alpha Systems). Simple Green seems to do a better job for me. For the side of the RV, I generally use StarBrite Boat Wash & Wax, but have also started using my foam cannon with Griots products. At the beginning & end of season, I will use Wash Wax All after a good wash.

I thought I remembered that Murphy's was a recommendation.
