    Durango CO to Statesboro GA

My daughter moved to Georgia a while ago to be with friends and try a new place to live. Needless to say we have a lot of her stuff with us here in Durango. We may or may not take the trailer depending on what stuff she wants. This would be in mid July, hopefully with most of the COVID behind us.

MapQuest gave me a route of I40 across to Memphis then I22 to Birmingham then I20 to Atlanta. At Atlanta take west/south 285 bypass around Atlanta then catch I75 to Macon to I16 and SW to local 25 north to Statesboro. Total time 28 hours. we would plan 3 days (10 to 12 hours).

We have relatives in Mississippi and used to go I 40 to 287 at Amarillo the bypass Dallas to join I20 about 60 miles east of Dallas over to Mississippi and back country to the DW folks house. This usually takes 2 full days. My Daughter on the way out went this way. Then from Mississippi she jumped up to I20 at Jackson and then grabbed US80 across to I16 in Georgia. Might do this coming back. This way is a full three days

I have been across I40 years ago to Little Rock (very rough from what I remember )and I know Memphis and Birmingham can be a mess (again years ago) and I hated Atlanta traffic. I can do 10 to 12 hour days depending on the stress level.

What can folks tell me about the MapQuest route? Good places close to road for quick 1 night stays with RV or places to stop without 5th wheel. I can probably get more stuff in truck bed without trailer, but we don't know what she wants us to bring yet. I am not sure we can get her bed in the trailer (mattress and box spring) Im guessing first night would be Oklahoma City or just east of there. Second night Birmingham/Atlanta area, and then Statesboro. Wife can get two weeks off - so with driving not much time for side trips.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks

We've been that way a few times. We much prefer I-40 over Dallas and I-20!

We like staying in Amarillo so we can eat at the Big Texan. Sometimes we get lucky and see someone trying to down the free 72 ounce steak - and failing. Maybe someday we'll someone succeed. We generally stay at the Big Texan RV park there.

After that it is sort of depending on when we want to stop and what is available. We prefer to stay West of Memphis (maybe West Memphis, AR campground) as picking are slim after that through Alabama. There is a campground in Memphis near Graceland if that's your thing.

I think I'd need through B'ham (ugh!) and then Montgomery, AL to Columbus, GA and then over to Statesville. Again, just picking where to stay depending on how we feel and how long we want to drive.

Last fall I was fortunate and found a spot at T.O. Fuller state park campground in Memphis. I say that because it was still into busy season and it's about a 20 minute drive to Graceland and the same to downtown Memphis. It's a nice well appointed park , like the other Tennessee state parks I have visited. The site I had wasn't full hook up (sewer) but if staying only a night or three that shouldn't be a problem.
