Powering a TPMS range extender on/about trailer tongue

I have purchased a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and it came with wireless range extender (basically a little wireless receiver/signal booster). I am looking to mount the extender near the tongue of the trailer and have been thinking of where to mount/tie in to power. The range extender has a 2 amp fuse on it and it only needs to be powered when the trailer is hooked up (i.e. when I am traveling).

I have found the junction box where the seven pin trailer wire ties into the trailer (located on the tongue near the wiring block). I am thinking of using a posi-tap connector to get power off the battery charging wire (black) and ground on the white trailer wire also. A few questions for those more electrically inclined:

    1. Would the charging wire be moving too many amps to the battery to tie into and result in regular blowing of the 2amp fuse to the little receiver/transmitter...or would that not matter b/c It would just draw what power it needs?

    2. Any other concerns/comments or better suggestion on a power source?

    Thank you.

Devices determine the current they draw. A battery can supply in excess of 1000A, but a device that draws just a few milliamps can be connected to a battery with no issues.

Thank you. I thought it would be fine and then I started to second guess/over think it.

I mounted my TPMS extender in the front pass through storage and connected to my front trailer marker light. I always tow with my lights on so that turns the extender on and off. The extender made a big difference with the connectivity of the TPMS monitor.

I found the range extender unnecessary. Tst Tpms on 35' 5th wheel.

I wired mine to the front closet. I got 12v from the overhead light.

Try it without the extender first. I paid extra for the extender and didn't need it.

I installed mine inside of the battery box. I also installed a lighted switch on the outside of the box to turn it on and off.

I just wired mine directly to the battery and mounted the extender on the battery box.

Problem is you don’t know for sure if you are occasionally dropping signal.
