Thanks for the reply. It looks like Air Lift and Firestone make air bag kits that will work with the OEM puck goosenecks.

ETA: my bad, I didn’t see you said in your hitch.

Well, I just looked a little closer at the Reese Goosebox and it has an integrated airbag. Learn something new every day.

I think I could come in under capacity with a 16800 GVWR 5ver but would require some careful loading. Truck pulls and stops with ease and the exhaust brake is priceless and squat with the 3200 lbs of pin is only 2 inches. my actual weights http://www.towingplanner.com/ActualW...5280&w2da=3040 .... When you are shopping Payload and the truck GVWR are the 2 capacities you should look for, towing capacity means nothing if you can carry it you can tow it, not true the other way around, that's how so many end up with the wrong truck. later Frank
Frank - curious.....is your just shy of 4400 payload the actual # on the printed payload sticker for your truck or a calculated # using other numbers ? That is a very high number for 3500 diesel SRW trucks (regardless of GM, Ford, and Ram) when well optioned that are usually in the mid 3500 range.

Frank - thank you, much.....appreciate it ! I have been curious about this over the many months you have posted. We are getting serious about a new 3500 and while I am a nearly 5 decade "bowtie guy" have owned a few Fords, a GMC, and a new Dodge in 1980 and would consider these again. Nearly 4400 payload for a 3500 SRW diesel is appealing.

My apologies to the OP for going a little off the rails......my first time doing this..lol !!!

ETA: I made a couple of mistakes in the poll. It should read Ram 3500 and F350 Lariat. My apologies for any confusion.
I didn't vote in your poll because I have a 3500 Ram DRW. Our RV is too heavy for a SRW but I did want to contribute. Ours is a 2018 Ram, I have read and watched videos of the new 2020s and they have a lot of changes. Lots more cameras, changes to the frame, and the Cummins engine in the fuel system and head valve assemblies and lots more. I am not so much a fan of "Bling" as I am capabilities, payload, etc.
In the final analysis I think all the big 3 are fine trucks, I just prefer the Ram and Cummins. My SonIL prefers Ford and he has an F350 SRW a couple years old to pull their Montana 5er and loves it.

My advice...Heed the advice of other posters regarding DRW. We have a 2017 F350 SRW 6.7PSD SCREW pulling a 320G. we're a few hundred lighter on the pin and 3 feet shorter. I've not weighed it loaded since we got it last August, however no "toys" in the garage. We use it as a bedroom and just me and the Mrs now. Am I within my limits. absolutely. Does it tow stress free? Depends. I pulled a few months back with about 20 gallons of water in the holding tank. Did it once. I'll be filling tanks after I get off the interstate going forward. I've been towing everything from pop ups to travel trailers for close to 20 years. I don't like that float feeling when the rear wheels are feeling the stress of weight and sway and/or the front end starts swimming in the wind. We pull fine and handling is good under normal packing, but I can't see towing anything larger on SRW. Will you be within the limits..maybe but anything other than a Gooseneck or Andersen, probably not. Some of those nicer hitch setups run you into a couple hundred pounds easily. Regardless, the physics of the numbers don't account for factors such as comfort of ride and feel of control. I see 1 ton SRWs pulling bigger stuff all the time, but I've also seen a truck and trailer jack-knifed, flipped and burning on I80 in MN after a wind storm. So.. to each his own. Do yourself a favor and consider the DRW for control and load and the wiggle room for bringing toys and capacity for dry camping. Just my two cents. Others have different opinions and more importantly, tolerance for the white knuckling.

The key to the right SRW is 12300 GVWR and for me 15000 GVWR on my fiver is as big as I would go. The tail never wags this dog. Easy pull and stop as I have said before the engine brake on this Ram is priceless. I think the 16800 and bigger GVWR Solitudes need a DRW. later Frank

Why would you support an Italian company (Ram) when you could support a company based here in the USA?
On a side note, it always drives me nuts when I see a foreign brand car with military stickers or plates on it. I mean, if this country
should support its veterans (absolutely), why shouldn't the veterans support this country?
    End of rant.
