If I had to pick a SRW 1-ton truck, it would be the F350 with the Tremor package. It won't (legally) accomplish what the OP is wishing to do but would suit me perfectly. I was almost set on trading the Tundra for one when we got notice our plant is shutting down, then COVID hit so I decided to keep the Tundra. My only hard decision would be gas (7.3) or diesel.
Edit- My second choice would be the 3500 cummins. They have the best interior IMHO.Last edited by That 1 Ron; 05-24-2020 at 11:56 AM.

For estimated loaded pin weight, use 23% of the trailer's GVWR. Conventional (non-slider) fifth wheel hitches average about 200 lbs. (sliders are heavier than that). Diesel fuel is 7.1 lbs. per gallon. Then you have passengers and whatever other stuff you put in the truck. I didn't say anything about a "buffer." These are just the numbers used to calculate capacities. With fifth wheels, it's all about payload - not towing capacity.

The Tremor package has a slightly lower available payload. Using the formula below, the pin weight, hitch weight, fuel and passenger weight would most likely be over what the rated payload is making it technically illegal. Could it do it, sure. Lots of people do.

Out of curiosity, why don’t most people convert to Gooseboxes? That is my plan because they are not terribly expensive (compared to 5th wheel hitches) and take the weight of the 5th wheel hitch out of the equation. Am I missing something?

The torsional forces that a true gooseneck adapter put on the frame of a fifth wheel that's not designed for it. The GooseBox is a little better in that it's dampened - and it won't void your frame warranty since Reese and Lippert are in bed together. I'll get flamed for saying this since there are numerous happy GooseBox fanboys out there...
