If you could pick any 1 ton SRW TV...
We are looking to upgrade our 2017 ram 2500 Cummins Mega Cab to a 2020 1 ton crew cab SRW, and have been looking at all the options. If you could choose between the Ram 3500 Laramie, GMC 3500 SLT, or Ford F-350 Lariat what would you go with and why?
ETA: I made a couple of mistakes in the poll. It should read Ram 3500 and F350 Lariat. My apologies for any confusion.Last edited by Rye__a; 05-23-2020 at 09:27 PM.

That's a hard one we are looking at GMC and Ford ourselves. I really don't know that one is so much better than the other one. We had a Ford when we bought our GMC and really like the GMC. We had really liked the Ford when we had it. Went to GMC because if we had gone to another Ford we wouldn't have been able to tell we were in a new truck or not because it would look just like the old one. Facing the same dilemma now. If we get a DRW it will be the F450. SRW it is still a toss-up. Really like the on star with GMC.

Drive all of them. Ensure the fit finish and feel is what you want.
They all have their own distinctive qualities that make them what they are. I have had 2 fords 2 GMs and 2 Rams. I won’t say that any of them were better than the others or which ones I had issues with because I genuinely don’t want to sway you away from what could be an amazing truck because of my experiences.
Full disclosure, my current truck is a 2019 Megacab 3500 HO SRW. My reasons for getting it was the megacab. Other cabs were larger but I wanted the behind the seat storage and reclining ability. It handles my 311 well but it doesn’t come without some deficiencies in other areas.
I hope it goes well on your searches.

Then you need to make sure whichever truck you choose has 3,800 lbs. payload left over after you load passengers, fuel, install the hitch, and put everything else in the truck. 16,800 lbs. is a lot of trailer for a single rear wheel truck. As long as you're OK on payload, pick the truck you're most comfortable in - they're all good trucks with good powerplants.

Why is the Ram option only a 2500? My pick is a Ram 3500. Any trailer with 3 axels needs a DRW TV

I am partial to my Ram 3500 SRW 8' bed .... with a GVWR of 12300 it provide a payload of 4394 ... my set up is a S Class 2930 RL with a GVWR of 15000 that is about max for my SRW Ram, I have about 800 lbs available payload when loaded to camp which includes 300 lbs firewood in bed of truck and 60 gallons water in fresh tank. I think I could come in under capacity with a 16800 GVWR 5ver but would require some careful loading. Truck pulls and stops with ease and the exhaust brake is priceless and squat with the 3200 lbs of pin is only 2 inches. my actual weights http://www.towingplanner.com/ActualW...5280&w2da=3040 .... When you are shopping Payload and the truck GVWR are the 2 capacities you should look for, towing capacity means nothing if you can carry it you can tow it, not true the other way around, that's how so many end up with the wrong truck. later Frank
