    bicycle rack

I want to use a Saris Freedom 2 receiver hitch bike rack on my on my Reflection 303RLS. My concern is that the manufacturer hasn't tested it for use on trailers. Has anyone tried this model or any other receiver-mounted bike rack that is approved only for vehicles, and had any problems when used on a trailer?

I am using a Thule with success. It secures to the trailer receiver tight and easy to load/ unload bikes.

X2. Great rack. Went to and from Destin, FL with it last year through the rough roads in Birmingham, AL and it was awesome.

I just installed this one on our new 303RLS this morning. Very sturdy rack and easy to install and use. Will haul bikes this weekend on it for first time.

    From the Saris manual:

"• Do not mount to any type of trailer, towed vehicle, or RV."

    From the Pro Series manual:

"This rack is designed for typical use and applications (on paved or smooth gravel roads). Do not use this rack
on a vehicle that will be driven on rough roads or where the rack (and bikes) will be subjected to significant or
constant jarring and/or shock, or any vehicle with very stiff springs that will transfer the load shocks directly to
    the rack and the bikes."

Which, is sadly consistent with almost all bike racks. Saris is definitive, Pro Series is pretty vague (but gives them an out if they fail on an RV). Swagman has only 2 that are for RV use, and Yakima has one. And the only way to find out is to download the manual, and look in the fine print.

That said, while there are lots of documented cases of bumpers being damaged by the up/down motion of bikes being mounted, to-date I haven't run across tales of receiver racks themselves failing. So it is unknown whether the manufacturers have tested and verified that they will fail, or are just not testing and covering themselves as a "just in case" measure.
