    New 2500 Chevy/GMC 6.6L gas vs. 2019 6.0L

    I need to get a new TV and am unsure whether to go with the 2019 Chevy 2500 6L or get a new 6.6L in 3/4 ton. The price difference between the 2019 Chevy and the 2020 is only about 2 grand. These are both base model trucks in 4x4. I like the looks of the 2020 GMC better, but it's about 4 grand more than the 2019 and 2 grand more than the 2020 Chevy. Dealer won't budge on price. I like that the 2020 has more HP and torque, but am leary of purchasing a new model year with new engine, even though it will be under warranty. I know the 2019 will tow my trailer, 2020 MK2670, with a loaded weight probably at almost 8,000lbs; but will it be to sluggish? I don't need to go 80 up a mountain, but wondering if I'll regret not getting the beefier engine. I know the 6.0L is a pretty solid engine from what I've read. I don't want diesel because I don't want the added maintenance costs. Since 2020 is a new engine and model yr., I wonder if getting the 2019 will depreciate more in resale value if I chose not to keep. Anybody bought a new Chevy/GMC gas 6.6L? Any opinions? Thanks.

    The 6.0 is a solid engine. Hard to believe it's been around for 21 years already. That being said, with just that much price difference, I'd go for the 2020 with the 6.6L. I like the new camera tech on the 2020's and who doesn't like more hp/torque. While the 6.0 is a workhorse, it won't win any acceleration awards, maybe the 6.6 is better. If the 2019 was deeply discounted, I might be persuaded to go that direction. I think the 2020 GMC HD's look alright but the Chevy HD's are hideous.

    FWIW, some of my better past trucks have been GM's.

    Cant help on the actual question, but have you tried contacting other dealers within a distance you are willing to drive to get a better deal on the 2020 model? I've driven 800 miles round trip on a truck before because the price was that much better.

    I'm currently looking within a 500 mile radius of where I'm located. Any deals better than the one the dealer won't budge on for the 2020 GMC, I like it better than the Chevy 2020, are close to 1,000 miles away from where I'm at. I thought dealers really wanted to move things, but since I can't wait much longer before I need to leave where we're at, I may be on the hook. Between the 2019 Chevy and the 2020 GMC is about 4 grand difference. So, I could be swayed towards the 2019, but when there is only about 2 grand difference between the Chevy and the GMC 2020's it's probably not worth saving 2 grand if I like the GMC better.

    I just hope the new engines prove to be reliable if I go with 2020. I also don't know if I'll keep it forever, so I wondered if the 2019 or 2020 would have a better resale value. With the new engines and look of the 2020s, the 2019s may dip a lot if the new engine does prove to be reliable.

    From what I've seen and read the new 2020 6.6 is a better towing motor than the 6.0. Both are based on a tried and true LS series platform that has proven to be strong, but I'd go for the 6.6 if I was buying a GM.

    I can’t compare the two but I have the 2020 6.6 gas crew cab towing a reflection 297rsts with the equalizer sway control and I am absolutely thrilled on the power and the handling of the combination. I’ve only been out 3 times towing the camper but I tell my wife every time we arrive how much I like this truck/ camper!!!

    Thanks for the input. I think I'm gonna go with the GMC 6.6. I think I'll get tired of the lack of power of the 6.0.

    Just did my first pull with my 2020 6.6 yesterday. Pulled two trailer. My first was about 5k. Never exceeded 3000 rpms and that was going up bridges and with the travel trailer. Was daily able to get to highway speeds. Was surprised at how much torque it has in the 1st and 2nd gear. Then traded in the TT for the GD 295rl. About 9k dry. The truck performed the exact same with the heavier weight. It drove better with the fifth wheel than travel trailer. It was a dream pull. Got to 65 on the highway and could have easily gone 70 if I wanted. The truck had very little squat with 1300 lbs of pin weight. Pulling with my Silverado versus the Expedition is like night and day. That 6.6 is just awesome and a better price point then the 7.3 Godzilla does put out. From what I can see, you cannot go wrong with the 6.6 and with the extra 2k.

    Thanks, I have a deal and financing worked out for a Chevy 2500, but trying to decide if I should gamble and wait till after Monday since the incentives expire then and see if they get any better.
