How bad did I mess up the frame and receiver

I went into a spot with my TT I should not have and had to make a very tight turn, in reverse and forward to get out. I had my Husky centerline springbars on and they impacted the frame just above where the safety chains attach the the frame. I drove home 100 miles before noticing... How bad is this? I'm sure the dealer will tell me it fatal and I need a new trailer so I'm hopeful some of the pros here can give some guidanceClick image for larger version.

I'm no frame expert, but depending on the type of hitch, the spring bars need to come off prior to making reverse maneuvers to prevent damage. I'm guessing that's the case with yours. If they just repair it, I would look into a better hitch that allows you to reverse with the spring bars installed.

Hope the dealer comes through for you with favorable results. If they say the worst, i hope insurance covers the loss.

I don't think that's anything a good welder can't fix (probably not your dealer). See if you can find a local business that fabricates trailers. Of course, the bill's going to be on you...

I would suggest finding a good frame/alignment shop. Some would be doing truck/auto repair. That way they might know about keeping the tung angle correct. Please let us know how it come out.

As others have suggested a reputable welding or trailer shop can repair that. In general you don't have to disconnect your spring bars when backing, unless as in this situation you make turns that are not within the tolerances of the system, than you will have to disconnect it.

    Hope your repair goes smoothly.

On other thing. Have the spring bar and your trailer hitch checked for any damage (including the receiver and mounting to the TV) - this includes the coupler, ball mount etc. The force you created probably did some other damage too.

    It's fixed

I took the pictures to two different spots in town, spot A estiamted about $1000. Spot B, which I am happy to recommend, Kro Built in Reno, fixed me up for $160. The damage to the frame did not impact the hitch, just the safety chains. Kro Built welded some new brackets on the frame, and I'm off! It might still be a little fugly, but thats OK with my for $840.
Thanks to all who replied and offered advice. I did check the spring bars and all other parts of the hitch where forces are applied and it looks OK.

Just by looking at it I am calling it a bad weld. Does not look like it got good heat penetration.
