The Banks powered 7.3l did a great job pulling, and the Banks brakes worked like a charm to slow us down.
    Do I need a new truck ?
    Yep.
Will this do to get us to the lake ?
    Yep.
    But,,,,,
It's a wise choice to haul with a bigger rig.
I can see an F 350 or better yet, an F450, in our future.
Damn nice 5th wheel there! I'm sure when you're ready to upgrade trucks, you'll have no trouble selling that 7.3L. Those are still in high demand. I miss the one I drove for a few years even if it wasn't the most reliable, it pulled like a train. Good to see another NM member on here!

FYI in 2003 the 7.3 put out 275 HP. The new 6.7s are putting out 475. Big difference...unless you are comparing to the F650

BTW, I own and tow with a 7.3 and absolutely love it.

I'm well aware of a stock 7.3's output.
    Look up Banks power.
I have their complete power pack upgrade.
With exhaust, and cold air intake, I have just over 400 hp, and about 800 foot pounds of torque.
A new truck doesn't have much over me.
    Better pic.

Man, I would get a smaller trailer just to keep your truck. Both truck and trailer look awesome, shame it’s heavy enough to need more margin with the truck.

Next you’ll say it’s got a ZF-6 in it (although I would be surprised if it did with your power).

You surely already know this, but if and when you do sell, I’d be shocked if a dealer gave you what that truck is worth. A truck like that will fetch some serious coin out in the market

I've thought of upgrading the tranny, but now that the 376th came into our life, I'll put my truck up for sale in the future, and get a newer, more capable truck.
I've only got 154k on it.
I'll use the cash, and my 1% under invoice if I buy new.
I like gently used, as the original buyer took the huge depreciation hit.

Believe it or not, the oil cap has the same thread on a 7.3 as most Nissans and Hondas. That makes it super easy to get a shiny billet one made for the ricer tuner crowd. I had one on my Excursion 7.3.

Splat looks like we have the same truck cept I didn't catch if yours is 4x4 or not. With the 7.3, crew cab and 4x4 we gave up a lot of payload. See the attached chart for the 2002 trucks. See my CAT scale ticket. That was fully loaded for a trip with two passengers, luggage, camper shell and all the tools and crap I carry BUT NO TRAILER YET. MY GVWR is 9,900 and I weighed in at 8,860 that day which leaves me only 1,040 lbs of available payload remaining! (notice the front axle weighs in at 5,080 and it's only a 5,200 lb axle!) Good thing we are only getting an Imagine XLS. I was as disappointed as heck when I learned my F-350 was basically a 1/2 ton truck! Can't get rid of her though, it's in near mint condition and I love it.

And here's the truck (I changed to 2004 18" Lariat wheels) and my all stock engine (except for the AIS) with the plain old yellow and black oil cap.

I got the cap off Ebay !
I had no idea, until this thread, I had a 1/2 ton truck....
Last time I went to the dump, when I was leaving, I just asked, what I weight ?

    8256 was the reply.
That's 2 adults, 1, 92 pound lab, 3/4 tank of fuel, and a tool box with with some junk.
So roughly 1700 pounds to go.
    I had never imagined an F350, wasn't an F350.

You have a very nice truck.
What tires are you using on it with 18's ?
Did it mess up your speedo, or gearing ratios ?

What did people do back in the day for towing and hauling with these trucks ?
