    Don't be too embarrassed, you're not alone. Long ago my father in law's farm trailer with electric brakes got it's cord pulled out, not a trace of the old wiring. I had wired several small trailers, but never one with electric brakes. So after putting things back like I felt they should go, my brother in law and I checked the blinkers, running lights and brake lights and all was good. I didn't have a clue how to test the electric brakes without just hooking up and trying it. So we took off, all systems go, except no electric brakes!!! So while driving back to the farm, my brother in law turned on the head lights..............we found the electric brakes!!!!as the trailer jerked us to a stop. He reminds me of this often

    All things being 12 volt, even if hooked up wrong where do the sparks come from??

    It can happen. I've had it happen to me, only when I plugged the 7 way in it melted the wires.

    If plug inserted 180deg wrong it reverses 12v polarity connecting + to - & - to + so direct short between + & - (as well as reversing blinkers and brakes to running lights)

    When I wrote that I was thinking the ground was in the center postion . . . which it's not . . . wrong again!
