Tow vehicle? F150??
We are in the process of purchasing a 295 RL Reflection. We currently have an F150 EcoBoost rated to tow 11,100 lbs with a payload of 2315 lbs. this fifth wheel will be pushing us to the upper limits of the truck. Are there other members towing with a similar truck and fifth wheel? I think I know what most of you are going to say, but it is supposed to be a half ton towable?

Ohhhh Boyyy!! That’s a very very nice camper but I don’t think it’s 1/2 ton towable. Grand Design has some really optimistic tongue and pin numbers.
There will be plenty of folks more educated than me chiming in but I’ll say you should expect at least 20% of your GVW to be on the pin. In your case that’s 2040lbs. Plus the weight of the hitch setup and anything in the bed. What kind of rear axle weight rating do you have? The highest F150 rating I remember is 4050lbs. I think you would be at risk of breaking studs or an axle and losing a wheel. If I was in your position I would buy a F250 with a gas engine. I think this video helped me when I was shopping. Keep in mind their trailer weighs 2000lbs less than the one you just bought.

We have around 6,000 mi towing our 295RL with our F-150. Our F-150 has the HDPP with 2513 payload capacity. The truck/trailer combo behaves very well.

One piece of advice. We started with the PullRite 24K hitch that the dealer sold us - and used the Lippert generic wedge. That worked OK for awhile then I started to get way too much hitch/king pin movement and could not get the wedge adjusted to correct the issue. So - I sold the PullRite hitch and bought a Curt A16. Curt makes a wedge specifically engineered for their hitch. I am happy with this hitch / wedge. If you don't already have a hitch and plan to use the turning point feature of the king pin I would buy a hitch that has a wedge engineered for that hitch. Enjoy the trailer. They are nice. (PM me if you have any other questions and I can send you pictures of upgrades that we did to ours)

Thanks. I have an older Reese hitch, but I have not installed it yet and have not taken delivery yet. I will pull the wedge and see how it fits this hitch before I continue with the install. Any other comments for this combination of 295 with an F150 would be appreciated.

The HDPP gets you a heavier frame and the rear end from a F250 along with a few other things. IMHO it's a 5/8-ton truck, half way to a F250. My F150 w/ 3.5 EB towed our Imagine OK but I was overweight. Rather than spec out a new F150 I opted for the F250.
There was a guy on another forum who towed his 5er all over the country with his HDPP F150.2019 F-250 Supercab

I went from F150 to a F250 on the 230RL and it made a huge difference in handling and comfort. When I had the F150 I would say it towed great, but now that I have the F250 it is a world difference. Less stress and I feel like I could drive all day.

If there is no wind either truck pulls either camper just fine. The SD stops better and the engine brake is nice. Add wind over 10-15 mph and I hate using the F150 with either camper. They are so tall the wind just blows you around. If I had to stick with a F150 I would have a travel trailer less than 26' and the Equalizer or Propide hitch.Donald AKA johndeerefarmer
