grey water not grey at all

Hello, when I drained my grey kitchen sink water tank the color was not grey at all, but rather dark and somewhat smelly. But what could this be. The only thing I do is wash my hands or wash dishes! Thanks, IceMan

LOL, Coffee, fruit and veg. juices, meat grease, etc.

I think this tank is probably has the worst water in our systems. Many people throw anything into it and hardly ever take the time to clean it out. There is nothing wrong with putting a little toilet chem in to deal with all the crud in the tank, especially if it’s hot and your boondocking.

Yeah, rotting food and debris will make it just as bad as the black tank.

What the others said is all true, but it's also possible that the tank valves were mislabeled. That was the case on my last SOB trailer. I found out about it the hard way.

Thanks for these responses -- yeah, I guess I over-estimated how much the water draining into it would dilute the other "stuff"; not-so-much

Do a search on the internet for "GEO Method".

Putting Dawn dish soap and a water softener into ALL your tanks every couple of dumps or so will reduce the chance of stuff staying in the tanks. After EVERY dump put a few gallons of water into each tank to ensure that it's harder for stuff to stick to the tank's walls. Then every couple of times after you dump also add the Dawn and water softener.

The tanks should soon be dumping cleaner, smell a LITTLE less bad, and the bonus is that the tank sensors will usually be more reliable too.

    Good luck.

Thanks, and so how about those deodorizer/enzyme packets --- are those ok for grey water tanks too? Or is that overkill for grey water?

Also get yourself one of those sink screens so when you're washing the dishes the food particles don't go down in your grey tank.

Pine-sol is your friend for grey tanks. Cheap. Works. De-greases, deodorizes, disinfects. Same hold true for a black tank that has a lingering funk.

A bit messy getting them in the gray tanks because you’d have to dissolve them in the bathroom and kitchen sinks, but OK if you want to do that. There are liquids available instead, but not cheap. @geotex1 suggests Pinesol.
