    Anderson Jack Buckets

We have been using the buckets for about 3 years this is what they look like today. Haven't tried replacing under warranty yet and thinking making something out of layers of wood would last longer and cost less

Contact Andersen. I had one of my buckets start to split near the top and I called them. The person I spoke with had me text him pictures and mailing address and they had a new bucket delivered to me within a few days.

Just for reference. Chad and Tara from Changing Lanes RV (Grand Design ambassadors) ended up breaking 9 or 10 of them out of the 11 that they had. They purchased the originals and kept getting replacements from Andersen, until they finally gave up on them. Personally, my opinion is that they just aren't up to the task when you are dealing with heavy trailers. YMMV

That is why we are thinking of making our own layered blocks. We also had the anderson levelers crack and replaced by Anderson once so far. So far the CS from Anderson has been good but so far I have not been not impressed with their Red plastic Products

I guess I was fortunate...I had watched Chad and Tara's video on their experience with them, about the same time I bought my Momentum 394, and decided I would just make some out of wood. I bought a 10' long 2" x 12" and cut it into one foot pieces....so I have ten of the wooden blocks. I always put at least one under each of the six legs and if it looks like one side of the trailer is lower than the other, I might put two per leg on that side, before hitting the auto level button. The wooden blocks are probably a bit more cumbersome to haul around, but I really don't have to worry about breaking one of them unless I put one down on a rock that sticks up and doesn't let the weight be distributed evenly.

We have been using variations of the “LEGO blocks” for many years. Lighter than wood, stackable, can form ramps. Haven’t broken one in >20 yrs , granted our heaviest trailer has been our current 27RL.

When we had our Imagine we used the yellow plastic tire chocks and the orange stackable squares for leveling. When we got our Solitude the yellow tire chocks started smashing and collapsing and so did the orange stackable levelers. We now use big firm rubber tire chocks and I made 6 of these jack leveling blocks out of spare 2x4s left over from a project. I put them together with long coated screws, covered the bottom with square rubber pads I got from Lowe's or HD, then applied several coats a water seal like Thompson's. I made some handles for the blocks out of old seatbelt webbing I had. They may weigh a little more than plastic buckets but do they stack nice in the storage compartment. I just bounce them on the ground to shake off the dirt before storing. Yes they may get a little wet in rainy weather, but they are back out under the RV jacks at the next stop and dry out nicely. They also come in handy when I have to jack up the RV. Just the cost of the screws and the rubber pads and a little time cutting the boards and screwing them together, a whole lot cheaper than the buckets.

That's what we have used for years and had great success with them. They are the Lynx ones from Walmart, I think. Only thing that hasn't held up is the zippers on the bags.

I know A LOT about polymers and making structures items with them, and I chose to use pressure treated pine for jack pads. I used 2x12, cutting into squares. I laminated one pair with 3 pieces, two pairs with 2 pieces, and carry four single pieces. When laminating, I alternated the grain and used framing screws rated for pressure treated. Used nylon webbing to make a handle for each one. These store nicely in milk crates.

P.S. - If you are wondering why so many... First, I grew up running farm and construction equipment and still do when need arises. In my world, jacks always have jack pads under them. So even a perfectly level campsite - I'll have the double blocks under the front jacks and singles under the rest. Second, I am always prepared, and these will allow me to safely jack and stabilize the 5er in the event of needing a tire change. Finally, one of our favorite campgrounds has mounted sites for drainage and you need a lot of block when the middle jacks are at the high spot!

Ours have held up well for almost two years now other than having to re-secure one magnet. Time will tell.
