I have had rvs for years and my Grand Design Solitude 369 has been the best unit I have owned and the tech support is by far the best in the business. If you get the chance go to Grand Design and tour the plant and then make your decision. You definitely wont be disappointed.

Thanks to all that replied 2 years ago. Life's priorities sidetracked us however the dream is still alive!
To refresh.... Our forever home is in Alpena Michigan. Judy and I retired here from the big city a few years ago. We are making plans to snowbird starting winter 2018 likely in the southwest.
Although our rv shopping plans were postponed our research has been ongoing.
The plan....
Current truck lease expires December 2017. We will purchase a new Sierra 3500, SRW, Duramax, 6 foot bed.
Looking to purchase a lightly used reflection or solitude midsize.
Questions...
GVWR of 16k should be no problem for this truck right?
Has anyone reinforced the front storage compartment to accommodate 4-6 T-105 AGM batteries? Is this a major modification? I expect to add solar (600 watts or more) eventually but will replace lost power with a Honda 2000 initially.
I like the R-45 in the floor on the Solitude compared to the R-30 in the reflection. We hope to boondock mostly in the desert so how high of a priority should this be?
Dual pane Windows? Worth the added cost?
Auto levelers. I think I need these. Thoughts?
Will a 35-38 foot 5'er lock us out of national park campgrounds? We will need to come in to dump and reload tanks from time to time and take an hour long shower. Again, this rig will be used almost entirely for boondocking in the southwest during the winter.
I would like to avoid a residential fridge if possible due to power requirements. Mistake?
Fingers are tired so that's all for now. Many of you folks have already been where we are going. I appreciate any insight you can provide.
I apologize if this is posted in the wrong area. Forum newbie!
Thank, Jeff

Welcome Jeff! I don't think you will go wrong with a Solitude if you can find a used one for sale. Double pane Windows add about 150 pounds. I really don't think they add much insulation. Others will disagree. Compare heat gain single vs double pane Windows. If the sun is shining on them there is not much difference
