Adding external access door

2020 28BH Has anyone added an external storage access to the space to the left of the sink. The space is a large area that is super difficult to access from the cupboard under the sink.

Before you dive in, get a diagram of that wall to see where the framing is! You don't want to be like the knucklehead on YouTube who literally cut all the support out of his slide box to put in outside acess!!!

If you do that, let me know. That would be a neat mod and quite handy. I am still considering the area in the bunk room that is behind the outside kitchen, between the double drawers under the lower bunk, and the back wall of the camper as well. The same concerns with frame, etc apply, but unlike the kitchen that can at least be used, this seems to be a large dead space.

Maybe someone here knows if there are structural supports in the outside wall where you want to cut, maybe not. Maybe calling GD you can find out... maybe not.

You can - assuming you can get in the interior area you want to cut - use a utility knife and cut away the luan wood pane from the styrofoam. Then you'll know if there is any support in that wall. Then you can make some pilot holes from the inside and return to the outside and cut away.

I did that for my microwave vent and discovered some metal that was there to support the microwave. Fortunately it didn't prevent me from cutting a vent hole.

And I did cut a hole where my electric receptacle on the side of the rig was so I could put in a cord reel. I didn't find any metal structural support but did discover that the 'high quality' Amish worker who drilled the hole in the side of my rig for the 50 amp receptacle missed the blocking inside the wall by a good 2 inches thus totally missing the mark and only securing things to fiberglass rather than the wood blocking as intended. argh.....
