Drain plug in Water heater leaking

What I think is a water heater drain plug on our Imagine 2670 is leaking.

The white nylon/ plastic plug was out when I took delivery of the unit and the trailer was still winterized. After De winterizing the trailer I re inserted the plug and tightened it a little more than snug and it started to leak. I tightened it some more and then again and it is still leaking. I'm reluctant to put too much pressure onto it but it does look like a pipe fitting thread and and would need more pressure but it is also PLASTIC. It looks like there might have been pipe dope on it before but instead of guessing I decided to ask here. Tighten some more ? Pipe dope or tape ??Click image for larger version.

Looks like you need Teflon tape on the threads. Put 4 or 5 wraps on it and snug it up. That should take care of it.

Those plugs are good for cracking and leaking. We had to replace ours last October. They aren't expensive so it is a good idea to carry a spare. Lowes and Home Depot carry them. We do use teflon tape on ours whenever we have it out.

X3 - we install and remove ours with every trip with several wraps of teflon tape. Finally replaced the original after 6 seasons last year. it was interesting how hard the new one went in with all the new full threads and teflon tape compare the old worn plug. I thought I was going to twist it off....and that would have been unhappy extra work !

Thanks to all. I tape it tomorrow and buy a spare for the road.

Toss that plug and buy two and some thin teflon tape at a big box store. They are cheap.
You may have crossed the threads. They are only plastic or nylon.
The plug only needs to be slightly more then snug.

    Good Luck

Do you happen to remember the size? I'm heading back to my trailer to repair this same problem on a 2400BH and can hit a HD or Lowes enroute to buy a couple. TIA

Yes, Teflon Tape and a replacement plug is the answer.

Note: you may have tightened your current plug too much, so, buy two replacement plugs.
