Adding a water filter to Kitchen Island

I am adding a drinking water tap and filter to my Kitchen sink. I bought a Shark Bite 1/2" Pex to 3/8 T fitting with a shut off valve, cut that funny Blue vinyl cold water line, to find that the shark bite fitting would not go on that line. The hose is too large. What kind off fittings do you use on that stuff? It almost looks like I need to use tapered barbed hose fittings?

You cant use standard pex fittings on that flexible hose. Either replace the entire line with actual pex or there is some type of adapter that appears to be available in hardware stores in Canada, but I'm not sure if it's available in the US. Hopefully someone will chime in who knows the name of that adapter, I dont recall exactly what it is, but it's some type of barb to pex connection.

The following is the adapter mentioned by @FT4NOW, apparently available at Lowes in the U.S.

    https://www.lowes.com/pd/SharkBite-1...ing/1000182965

(It does not appear to be available at Home Depot in the U.S. but is available at Home Depot in Canada.)

The adapter will allow you to attach to the soft hose on one side, and a short piece of standard PEX on the other side to which you can connect the Sharkbite fitting you already bought.

The adapter comes with the metal rings for securing it, but those require an expensive tool to crimp them.

Instead, you can buy a standard hose clamp for the soft hose side of that adapter.

However for the PEX side you will need a different type of crimp ring and a less-expensive tool for it (or, you can buy the more-expensive crimp tool). The following are what you will need to crimp the PEX side to that adapter. Curiously, I can't find these on the Lowes web site!

I see that that cinch crimper tool costs almost as much as the big crimper tool! You can very likely find a less-expensive one, possibly even at Home Depot, I think I paid half that.

    Good luck.

Thanks for your help Mark! That worked perfect. Quick trip to Home Depot and Canadian Tire, and I was done in under $65, and now I own a Pex Cinch tool.

Since you've probably purchased everything it's probably too late, but it's real easy to install a two stage water filter for the entire trailer. I added the following into my basement.

With a couple of 90 degree pieces, a couple of PVC to garden hose connectors, and some PVC pipe I was able to easily add this to our water connection and it's easily removed if needed.
