    Tioga pass

Has anyone traveled from Las Vegas over Tioga pass pulling a large fifth wheel?

If you're talking 120 into Mono Lake, commercial trucking on that route is prohibited and the Mountain Directory describes it as "...difficult for trailers." There are three tunnels - the first with 13'8" clearance at the curb and the next two with 10'4" clearance at the curb. Grades are mostly in the 7 - 8% range with up to 9 miles of 5-6%. Personally, I wouldn't do it.

Yeah I've driven this route in my truck sans trailer. It's a tough drive - sharp turns, switchbacks, steep dropoffs, not much runout, and big trailers definitely won't fit.

Driven it often and would recommend that you bypass it with trailer in tow.

I guess I have to differ with these guys. I've towed over the entire length from Lee Vining on the east side at Lee Vining to the west die of the park. Heck, I've towed a lot tougher roads than this but few as gorgeous. Google the route and a few articles on towing it including from the National Park Service.

Now if you're not comfortable towing on steep and curvy mountain roads then don't do it but that would keep us from all our favorite places.

Done it a couple of times in my 35 ft rv, never with either of my trailers. If you can do it, the reward at the end is well worth the drive. Simply beautiful.
