Heat Pump
Took my new 380Th out for the maiden voyage in Lancaster Pa over the Thanksgiving holiday. Just to see if it could be done i only used the heat pump and not the propane furnace all weekend. The temps dropped into the high 20's at night but the heat pump did the trick. At night I did click on the fireplace for the kids in the garage. Anybody that lives in a cooler climate I would say the heat pump is a must have!!!

Good deal on heat pump. Most heat pumps (say most) do not really work well below 34 or so. That is the reason they have emergency heat electric strips to make up the difference below 34 or so as I stated above. Do the heat pumps on these GD units have the emergency heat strips for the cold weather like the normal heat pumps for the stick homes. Hootie

I added a heat pump and I find it works well above 30 but will work in the 20's with an dditional heat source. I use the fireplace on low heat and the heat pump and it keeps the Solitude pretty warm. It definitely saves a lot of money on propane. Even when paying electric it is still cheaper to run than the propane furnace. I think the heat pump is a great option. I have camped from March until December and only used the furnace twice when it was really cold below 25. I do not have emergency electric strips. If it gets real cold I use the propane furance.

When you scroll through your thermostat, I believe it's zone 2. It would give you the option of HP. If it only gives you Furn then you don't have it. I think that would be the easiest way to do it.

Does anybody know if I could add a heat pump to the back garage unit? Or is this only an option for the middle unit? I would like to add a little extra heat in the garage as we use this a second room for the kid.

If you have an a/c then you could remove it and replace with a heat pump. They pull almost the same current. The heat strips are marginal at best. I would recommend you just get an electric heater and place in the corner of the garage. It would be the cheapest option and provide the best heat.
