    Crater Lake Question

Coming up with a plan B in case Canada doesn't lift their travel ban...What are the pros and cons of camping in the Crater Lake area in early September (after Labor Day)?

Crater Lake Oregon? Been a few years, but there should be no problem. There are, or use to be bears there. At that time they closed early in the fall...I found out the hard way. Someone else will chime in probably with better info.

Thanks. I'm not too concerned about weather (or bears - I live in NW Montana after all). I'm more interested in crowds, closures and other things along those lines.

The only campground in the park is at the south entrance. I have not camped there. I don't know what size rigs will fit. Collier Memorial State Park is outside the park and is nice. Williamson River Campground is a FS campground and is almost next door.
We stay just north of La Pine, Oregon at Cascade Meadows RV Resort. It's a member park and also associated with RPI and C to C. I was just at Crater Lake on July 8th. Surprisingly; it wasn't packed with tourists. Just close.
I have been there more then 400 days. Mostly in the winter, when I was a ski patroller.

Bear sightings in the Crater Lake area are pretty rare these days. I think it was the late 60's when the park closed the open dump pit by park headquarters.

The park almost never closes, but the north entrance road does close for the winter. The south entrance is open in the winter. Sometimes it's a challenge to get out of the park. I have had to wait for the plow to plow a lane and then a bunch of people would follow it out to the main highway.
This is a full size pickup up at rim village in December. The real deep snow is in late Feb or March. KEN

And only power with a water spigot somewhere. I also read that the corners are tight around the campground. KEN
