Nautilus P1 Fresh Water Fill Problem

On our last trip we filled the fresh tank at home with the power fill procedure outlined in the documentation through the pressure regulator and filter we use for all city water connections. When the overflow was flowing we shut off the house water and removed the hose and put it away and noticed that water was still flowing out of the overflow for awhile.

When we arrived at our dry camping spot we noticed that the fresh tank readout showed 1/3 full. The 2/3 and full LEDs were not lit. After a couple days the 1/3 full LED went out.

The overflow apparently emptied half the 60 gallon fresh tank before it stopped flowing. Quite a lot of water flowed after the city water connection had been shut off and removed.

We had to operate in fresh water conservation mode and would like to prevent a repeat. The trailer is kept in storage so it is hard to experiment. Trailer is 2017 297RSTS with the Nautilus panel. The trailer was parked on the street and not precisely level.

Anyone else have this issue? I looked and didn't find it but if there's already a thread on it a pointer would be useful.

    Thanks for any help!

    Regards, Alan

Thanks, I found the thread: https://www.mygrandrv.com/forum/show...-tank-overflow

Summary - A siphon can get started if the overflow is allowed to run too much (excluding all air) and this will continue to run until the tank has partially collapsed sufficiently to suck some air in and break the flow. Various means have been found to solve the issue including momentarily opening the dump valve to let some air into the tank, or stopping the outflow from the vent with a valve or your thumb. If the filling operation is stopped quickly before the siphon has started flowing this problem may not occur though it is possible that it could get started by other events such as hitting a bump while in motion with a really full tank. A little air in the tank will prevent this. So avoid filling it totally full, or let a little out before hitting the road. Check the gauge to insure that it is full or near full.

In my case this particular time I was not right there when the tank filled, so the overflow was really well established when I shut things off. The other times I have filled this way I probably stopped it before it was flowing as much and there was still some air in the tank so the problem did not occur.

    Thanks for the help.

The 3/4" Sharkbite valve is such an easy fix. Fifteen-second install, make sure it's open, fill the tank, let it overflow for a minute or so, and then close it. Do something - masking tape on jack controls? - so you can't POSSIBLY forget to open it when you arrive at camp.

If your journey involves significant elevation changes, stop occasionally to open the valve for a moment to equalize pressure and then close it again.
