Electric black tank valve opener
I had a repairman out yesterday to replace the cable on my black tank release valve. When he finished he mentioned there was an electric version available that would open and close the tank valve with a switch rather than pulling and pushing the handle. I found some on line. Has anyone tried this replacement idea and if so what were the results?

Electric valves are very common on the higher-end class A motorhomes, but I don't recall a thread on this forum where anyone has done it with their Grand Design towable. Installation would require getting 12VDC to the valve location and routing wiring to wherever you mount the switch. Which model RV do you have?
You can create a signature block with your RV and tow vehicle information (see mine below). That way you won't have to repeat that information whenever you post or ask a question - and others won't have to ask. You can create a signature by going to:
Forum Actions (on menu bar) -> Edit Profile -> Edit Signature (under My Settings on the left)
Note: you'll need to have a paid subscription to add an image to your signature.

Interesting... as long as you have power sounds good. However, IMO, more things to go wrong like power source and motor... and still got the valve components too. But, on the positive, no cable binding and lubing - might make for smoother longer lasting valve. Another positive would be if the motors could be serviced or replaced seperate from the valve.
Update: Found one.

It is a 2020 303 RLS. I though I'd put that stuff in the profile but if I did I missed a step since it doesn't show.

But never deal with Camping World. Here's the same thing on Amazon for a lot less money:

You may have put it in your profile but that doesn't show on posts. You need to create a signature per the instructions above.
Here are a couple more posting tips:
1) If you use "Reply With Quote" (to the right of "Reply") as I have here, folks will know to whom you are responding and that person will get a notification.
2) You can also tag folks using the "@" symbol and their user name (as I have done yours) - they'll also get a notification that way.

I had to drop my underbelly to clear some debris from my black tank valve. I considered putting in some electric valves while I had the bottom down. I decided the cost was too much, and I could have the same problem again (jammed blade preventing full closure of the valve). So for me they were a no go. I guess each person has to make their own decision.
Replacing the manual valves with electric would involve plumping changes/work as well as electrical work. Had I done mine I would have wanted switches for the valves in both the wet bay and inside the RV.Larry KE4DMG
