I looked up your Suburban’s GCWR with 3.08 to be 12,000, that means the total weight of your loaded Suburban and your loaded trailer should not exceed the GCWR.

    Suburban GVWR 7300 - 1711 payload = 5589 curb weight
    Trailer dry weight = 5500 (estimate +/-)
Total dry weight combined = 11,089
    GCWR 12,000 - 11,089 = 911

That leaves 911 to be divided between Suburban and trailer. No matter how light you pack that’s not going to work.

Maybe look for a lighter trailer now that you see how the numbers work. However, even with a lighter trailer you will need the tranny cooler and a brake controller. In addition, the 3.08 rear will limit you to basically flat terrain. I wouldn’t recommend towing in mountainous areas.

Hope you can find another trailer that will work for you.

Bummer. Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it. What are your thoughts on an Imagine XLS 21BHE? Think that would work?

So, it’s a process. There are several limitations each of us face, be it payload, GVWR, GCWR, etc. It’s different for each set up.

Let’s take a look at the XLS 21BHE which will probably be delivered around 4,800. You have good payload, good GVWR, but you are limited on GCWR and max tow.

Let’s look at where we are from a dry stand point:
Suburban GVWR 7300 - 1711 payload = 5589 (Curb weight same as before nobody in the suv)
    21BHE delivered dry weight = 4800 (estimate +/-)
    Total dry combined = 10389
    GCWR 12,000 - 10,389 = 1,611

Now you have 1611 vs. 911 to work with. Looking better. Still need to be prudent on what you pack of course especially with a family which is why you’re looking at bunk houses.

What do you estimate your weights to be for you, other, kids, gear? Now what do you think you will put into the trailer? Keep in mind you have a total of about 1611 combined to work with.

WDHs are generally about 80-100+. Since you are trimming as much as you can may I suggest you take a look at the Andersen WDH. It’s less than 60 total. I’ve used it for five years and it works great. It has very good sway control, easy on / off, quiet, light weight, can back up, etc.

So come back with what you think your added weight will be for SUV and trailer. Can you stay within your ~ 1611.

People would weigh about 650 lbs total. Gear maybe 500-700? Not sure about that number.

You’re doing the right thing by asking first before jumping in. I think you can see it will be close and that’s something you will need to decide. Also double check the max trailering package to see if there are other things included that you haven’t considered. Then you might go to a Chevy forum and search or ask others what their experience has been towing with the 3.08 rear end gear ratio.

Just a thought, have you looked into having the gears changed to the 3.42. I know that won’t help on you cargo capacity but it would definitely help with towing
