Im little confused, you are concerned about bed rail clearance or overall height?
For bed rail, you’ll get by fine at 6”. I had a minor touch off once when at 5”, moved it up 1” to 6” and its good. This in something like 20k miles on my Goosebox.
So you should also know that the GB moves up and down on 2” hole centers. ( then Gen II has more hole options than gen I). So you can move the GB up or down in 2” increments, then if needed move it back 1” with or without a tall-ball, on Amazon for $75, not $300. At least mine was.
As for overall height, I recommend you actually measure yours setup for the road if you haven't already. You may find its not as high as GD says, mine is 13’2” (Solitude/Goosebox/2019 1-ton Chevy with air bags)
If running airbags how much pressure are you using? I ask because most people, IMO, use WAY too much pressure. Do the math, you'll find 20-25 psi is lifting a LOT of weight off the springs.
One last tip, know that if you are running on an interstate hwy, red/white/blue I- something, you are good to go height wise as the federal min standard is 14’
What out for NY state, lots of low bridges, conveniently placed right on the bridge. Interstate rules apply there also of course.

I'm thinking of going higher to get more bed rail clearance. So, to your question, both, I want bed rail clearance but am concerned about overall height.
Most of the time, I'm fine, but, if I get off kilter, I can get too close for comfort. Part of the problem here, Ford, in their infinate wisdom, not only made the 450 stupid high for most 5th wheels, but also, put a lip on the tailgate, so the spot that absolutely most needs the clearance (where there's the most movement between the RV and the truck) the very, very furthest back part of the truck, yup, they added a lip which add another 3/4 to 1in of height. <sigh>
I just got the B/W ball today, that's the highest one made, and that should give me another ~2in, which, hopefully, will be enough. The next question will be though, will the RV be too far off level. If it is, I think the only thing left is to raise it; and the CorrectTrack system seems like an easy way to get a little more height in the RV. But, of course, then the question becomes, will I be over 13'6 as the stated height is 13'5 (and it's about a 2in lift, IIRC).
The big problem, honestly, is my parking place. It's next to my house, and there's a bit of a hill there, I have the RV on the uphill side and have to crank over hard to make the turn into it's spot, and I can get really tight there. I've never seen it tight anywhere else, but I'm sure gas stations are probably the other problem spot.
I'm going to try the BW. I also added an air tank to my truck so I can easily fill the goosebox when I need clearance, as you know, if you load the bag all the way, you can push the nose up at least an in or two, giving me even more room to work with.
Got a trip scheduled next week, so I'll report back as to how the BW works for me. It's a really nice setup, but, man, it is STUPID expensive.

I think the issue with height rest with Grand Design in building trailers that push the limit on the height. If you look around you can find a lot of high end trailers that are not near as tall as a Solitude. I've looked at some that are less than 13'. My 303 is listed as 12'2" but when hooked up it is more like 12'6". The height of the trailer was one of the things I considered before I purchased a trailer and as a result I decided not to purchase any of the Solitudes because of the height.
Anyway IMHO I think GD could easily take six inches off the height of the Solitude and Momentum lines without sacrificing too much in the way of live-abiltiy.

Where that height is needed is in the bedroom and bathroom specifically the shower. We have people on the forum who are 6'4" and 6'5" who have said that head room in the Solitude is one reason why they bought the Solitude. They have said it is so nice to be able to stand up in the bedroom and shower.

While that's true, you "get something" for the height (more room in the rig). No, if we're going to place blame here, it really belongs with Ford/GM. These trucks are "stupid high" for no real reason at all. I think my bed connection point is probably higher than a semi truck; and they can tow 80K to my 30K. There's just no reason for these trucks, especially those setup to tow and not offroad (basically, any dually) to be 10' tall. It's silly, it's all "macho, mah truck bigger" crap driven by the aftermarket that puts 33's on trucks to make them look cool (and totally remove their ability to tow, well, anything at all in many cases). The crazy height on these trucks is basically the "fins" on cars from the 60-70's, didn't do anything except "look cool" and limit usability.
Thankfully, it does appear that at least someone is listening, the new F450, for example, is lower than mine (well, supposedly, I have measured them) from the factory, specifically because people were complaining about exactly this issue. I'd much rather we drop a few inches off the trucks and keep the living space in the rig, I have needed the massive ground clearance of my pick trucks exactly 0 times in the past few years, where I use the space in my RV all the time when I use it. Even just as an option, it would be nice, the "tow boss" package that drops the truck down a few inches and the "big hat, no cattle" package that put it high enough that you need a ladder to get in.

I'm 6' 4". If Grand Design took 6" off the height of their Solitude, it would make a HUGE difference in livability for me. I still have to duck at every door way upstairs as well as when I step into and out of the shower because the shower door rail is too low. I hit my head upstairs all the time. I wish the upstairs was 6" taller!

Speak for yourself! I'm 6'-5" and that height is a must! GD is not alone, but was a first to respond to those of us who participated in the owner's surveys where more interior headroom was very high on the list of desired changes. Nikki and I have bought every camper with my size in mind. You will also find that most every manufacturer has or is moving the same direction.
To the OP, do be conscious that the higher you raise your rig, you might have other associated issues like steps, especially the first one being too high. If you're head-set on this change, I would encourage you to visit a trailer builder and have a subframe raise done. That will be far stronger and better suited to the lateral stresses if your turn is as funky as I am picturing. Subframe raises are time-honored way of doing a competent lift and you can also have lateral bracing done with tube or angle for less money than MorRyde bolt-ins!Rob & Nikki + Cloverfield
