New Truck!

So from my previous posts, I decided to go from my 2014 F250 Crew Cab 4x4 to a 2015 F350 Cew Cab FX4. I am using a Husky 16kw hitch to to my 303. Will I have any problems since the F350 is 2 inches taller? I just could not leave the Ford family. I got another 1100 lb payload but want to make sure I will still have adequate clearance between the truck bed and bottom of the 303.

Hi Joe,

From a lot of measuring / calculating / tire upsizing / even suspension modifications done by various 303 owners, I would sum it up like this . . .
The 337 overhang height is 61" from ground.
The 303 has all the same dimensions, but the overhang is 59" from ground because of the 15" wheels and tires.
So, if you want to tow a 303 level with no modifications and 6" clearance to the box rails, these rails have to be 53" from ground when loaded. I doubt that the 303 pin weight is going to have much affect on the unloaded height of an F350 . . . maybe an inch ? Two at most ??
What is the F350 unloaded box rail height at the tailgate ?

Addendum to my own post here . . . Ford Superduty towing guide says SRW F350 tailgate is 59" to 60" from ground.

So from what I am getting from your post, looks like the F 350 CC 4x4 FX4 will not work?
I'm suppose to go sign for the truck tomorrow, but should I think twice?

Hi Joe,

Do you have access to your F250 and 303 right now ?
From your Avatar picture, it looks like your 303 is almost level, but the truck is squatting.
Can you take some measurements to compare to the F350 ?

Obviously, you will have to make the final decision, but what I would do is set the 303 on the F350 with wooden blocks under the pin and over the centreline of the axle with 6" of clearance between the overhang of the 5th and the box rails.
You could do this by taking the 303 to the Ford dealer or at any other location workable for both parties.

The F350 has more than enough capacity to handle the 303, but if you can't get the ride height close enough to level for your expectations, the fixes for this get complicated and expensive because you have to lift/raise the 303 by one of the methods chosen by others.

I've not heard of complaints on the height of the F350 causing any clearance problems. I have heard of other brands sitting higher and possibly being a problem.

I really don't know if the bed of a 4x4 F250 sits any lower than the 4x4 F350. A tape measure will tell. You might have to do some measurements.

But, I'm sitting here wondering why the 2014 F250 4x4 CC was not enough truck to tow a 303.
(Especially with the 6.7L engine!)

According to the GDRV spec sheet, the 303 has a GVWR of <12K and a pin weight of 1660. That's too much for the F250?

Maybe I misunderstood your original post.

More than enough truck but the 250 turns out to be a lemon. Tons of emission problems and computer mishaps after only 12000 miles. My dealer is taking it on a trade in with me only taking a 2500.00 over all hit for this F350. It seems there is only 2" difference in unloaded bed height. I did have to use air bags to level it out with the F250. I'm thinking the 350 will be fine but no airbags will be needed. What do you guys think?

I don't have the 303 available because it's in for some work. The 250 did squat some with the 303, that's why I got airbags.

Ahh. Makes sense now.
You're a loyal Ford guy to stick with them. I am too.

If the bed height on the F350 works out for you, you will also then be ready for when you get a bigger 5W.

I just went out and measured my unloaded F350 (2013), and the height from the ground to the top of the tailgate is 57-1/4".
