    Question Exterior Gel Coat Protectant

We are getting ready to purchase our 29rs Reflections from General RV in Mt Clemens Mi. Our Finance guy asked us if anyone talked to us about adding the special gel coat protectant to the exterior of our rig. Has anyone done this and is it worth the extra cost? Or just a pricey upsell?

We opted for it and it adds a real shine to the exterior. It is like "rain ex" for the whole exterior. It sheds everything and makes washing really easy.

My Husband thinks they quoted him about $65 per ft. Is that about right? Will it need to be redone after time or is it a permanent application?

Negotiate the price. We were originally quoted $475.00. The end of the day it was $225.00 BTW - I still did not get it. I could buy a lot of cleaner and wax for $225.00

That's far from $65 X 31ft. Just reminds me of the stain resist they always try to sell you when you buy s sofa You have to wonder if it is really necessary or worth it?

They offered that to us along with an interior protection. We passed and use the washwax all on the exterior a few times a year.
    It's a real easy application.

At my age, up and down a ladder for 8 hours 2-3 times a year was too much. Paying $8/ft for someone to do it was $320 times 2-3 a year made the purchase well worthwhile.

I'm with you on this. The Wash Wax All is a terrific product. You can buy the complete kit for far less than what a single application of that other stuff the dealers offer costs. It's easy and the kit has enough product to last for years. Not only that but you can use it on your cars and many other surfaces.

I opted not to purchase this time. I did on my last trailer and it proved to be a total waste of money. First of all the product did absolutely nothing to protect the finish. The "guarantee" was absolutely useless. Our brand new Cougar High Country suffered from terrible fade and oxidation almost immediately. The cap was the worst and first to develop, then the rear cap, then high on the sides. I took it to the dealer twice and they first tried to tell me I wasn't washing and waxing it, if anyone knew me they would know that that's a huge crock. Then they said okay, we'll take care of it and all they did was have one of their dealership wash guys wax and buff the cap. It of course came back within a wash or two. I spent almost 4 years with my Dual Action buffer using every product I could research and order to help.

Bottom line for me was the dealer applied coating did nothing and the guarantee was worthless.

    YMMV
