    Cool What a ride!

Recently, myself, along with my 75yo neighbor who was along for the ride, were on the way to a campground to set up my 5er for the weekend. Everything was going great and we were having a good conversation and enjoying the morning coffee. The roadway to this 5 star campground is in major need of repair to say the least (welcome to WV)! All at once I felt a little tug from the rear of the truck and looked in the mirror to see the camper going into a 2' deep mud filled ditch line and strike a concrete driveway embunkment which in turn ripped the axles from underneath of the unit and caused it to roll against the small bank on the roadside and then right itself back up stopping us dead in our tracks! Keep in mind, this all happened in maybe 2 seconds and it stopped before i could stand on the brakes. We were traveling between 30-35 mph. BTW, posted speed limit is 45. When we stopped, completely bewildered, my neighbor looked at me and said what happened? The truck never left the road and was sitting about 12" off the white side line. Neither of us had been bounced around in the truck and never even spilt our coffee in the center console! The unit and hitch had taken the full brunt of the incident. After we exited the truck to survey the damage it was clear as to what had happened. The point that the unit had entered into the ditch line, there was a section of the pavement that had been broke away, apprx 10', and when the wheels of the unit rode the broken pavement it tracked it into the ditch line. The unit was totaled, the top rail of my TV bed side was crushed and my pull rite hitch was bent. BTW, posted speed limit is 45. The positive outcome is, my neighbor nor myself was hurt,(well maybe my ego) no one else was involved and other than cleaning a ditch line for the DOT no other property was damaged. So, just a word of caution, when traveling especially on two lane roads with unkept 3' weeds hiding the edge of the roadway, be extremely cautious of unseen dangers. On a lighter note, I told the sheriffs that my elderly neighbor had had a moment and had shouted out the window "Hey ya'll watch this" and grabbed the steering wheel causing the accident! I thought he was going to faint!!
