    Reflection grease seal failures

I recall reading something about grease seal failures on Reflection fifth wheels in the pre-2018 models but can't find it.

    Does anybody have that information?

True statement. Just search for leaking grease seals. There were numerous discussions about it, wasnt isolated to Reflections or a certain model. It was any unit with LCI axles and some reports of Dexter axles after they switched over.

Well known issue. The LCI seal problem was aggravated by the syrup-thin grease Lippert used on the bearings. This led to brake contamination and possible brake failure.

Solution? Initial bearing service and brake adjustment, repeat annually. Red tacky grease works great!

Do you know the manufacturer and type of grease that red tacky stuff is? I have a new grease gun and would like to get a tube to load it with.

Thank you. I hadn't used the word "leaking" in my search.

    Appreciate it.

No, having said that, there was a massive amount of grease in the hubs. I cleaned it all out and am wondering how much you squeeze into the zerk fitting for the rear bearing.

Dont put any in the zerk fitting. You should really hand pack the bearings by removing the hub, it will allow you to inspect the bearings which is also important.

Just like long ago in the motorpool, handpack the bearings. (PV2 13F10 in 1978, CW5 155A in 2005)

Yes, I did that already cleaned, inspected, and greased the bearings but was wondering about the zero fitting as I read where it was for putting grease in the hub. As I said, the hub was loaded with grease. Much more than I ever would have suspected.

So are you saying to just grease the bearings, the races, and the spindle and let it go at that?
