James Island County Park, SC.
Can I get my 13' 6" Solitude into this park safely? Has anyone been there recently?
The last time we were there (about 8 years ago) we came in through Charleston (Folly Road Blvd). It was a miserable drive because of all the low trees. The same thing when leaving. Not to mention all the tress hanging all over the rig in the James Island campground.
We want to go again so I'm thinking I can get off I-95 onto US17 East, and then get off on Main Road. Then I can take that to River road (aka SR-S-10-91) to SC700 and onto Riverland drive.Larry KE4DMG

Watching this one too. I know our last camper at 12'-9" was an extremely iffy situation heading into James Island. Used to be one of our go-to campgrounds, but friends move out of Charleston. Even rode out a tropical storm in our one popup there. We've not been there in 5-6 years now though.

Last fall I left by way of Riverland Rd up to Rt 700, Main Rd then onto Rt 17. It was longer but a heck of a lot easier and less nerve wracking than the way I was went in off of Rt 17. I was heading south to Brunswick so it was kind of the right heading. Geotex1 have you plotted it with Sygic maps?

You thanked the wrong guy but I'll answer anyway. I'm at 12-6" by the sheet but probably 4 to 6" taller due to the AirMaxx vent covers. I haven't yet really used Sygic maps to any extent so that sounds disappointing. Just to be sure this is the app Geotex1 turned me onto a few months ago. https://www.sygic.com/truck

You can try to manipulate where Sygic is taking you by combining with Google Maps. With Charleston you only have so many truck accessible options because it's an old City and there are routes were truck traffic is forbidden not only because of road considerations but to preserve historic sections and buildings. The emissions degrade the old stone and brick.

Sorry 'bout that Wicked Ace - and boyscout too.
Thanks everyone. I tried that app once. I looked again. It took me off US17 on in via River Road & Riverland Dr. Looks like I may need to start using it again.Last edited by traveldawg; 07-13-2020 at 03:08 PM.

I was just looking at this campground. I've been going to Folly Beach for years but never camped near there before. Our Imagine is just a shade over 11' so I hope we won't have any issues.

I put pretty much the same post on another RV forum. One of the members there who had the same concerns contacted the campground and they got the DOT involved. The DOT is suppose to be cutting some tree limbs very soon.
I think I'll still stay at another location.Larry KE4DMG

Good idea. Honestly I wasn't impressed with the fit and finish of the campground. The park itself is really nice and you could wander for a couple hours before you find your way back. Also they were doing the trials of their Christmas displays the day I got there so I had four nights of awesome lights. It was nice too being close to historic parts of Charleston and Folly Beach. I decided on James Island because my buddy lives in North Charleston and this was the best place where we could hook up to hang out.
