Ok, bit the bullet today and will be picking up 2020 350 next week. GVWR= 11,500, Minus estimated curb weight and people/cargo, should end up with around 3600 payload. Although fifth wheel towing capacity will max out at 19,100 the fifth wheel is rated at 18k. Max camper weight is 16K and some change. Only another note it was a no brainier to trade the f250. Never had a decent dealer offer on trade but since dealer cannot get many new trucks today, the used market is booming. With 13k on my 19, got 3k under what I paid for it new!!

Best case scenario, glad to hear it worked out for you. The extra capacity will make you more comfortable every time you take the rig out.

Yes, we tow an M350 with a Ram 2500 4x4. Under CGVWR by a large margin, under the manufacturer axle rating, and under the tire max wt rating by a good margin. ALLPAR (published by Mopar engineers) states payload ratings are a subjective number based mainly on noise/ vibration/ harshness issues.

Seriously? The manufacturer's payload ratings are subjective. Ok.

These "engineers" need to find another line of work. The payload rating is the most important rating to consider when towing 5th wheels because it's typically the rating that gets exceeded first. If your truck meets the payload rating, it will typically meet all the other ratings.

Depending on gear ratio, they all more or less can tow the same amount. But their PAYLOADS are vastly different. And if you're towing a fifth wheel trailer, the payload is critical. Personally I wouldn't want to be anywhere near max payload. I like a margin of safety.
The other difference is brakes, the 450 uses different brakes than the 250/350 (AFAIK).

But the real fundamental question is, IMHO, "how many rear wheels". DRW vs SRW is a very large difference. The stability, the "backup tire" if you lose one, the width/stance. It's a lot more comfortable towing a 351M with a 450 than a 250, I know, I did both and both with 2019 trucks (yes, I'm a member of the 2 truck club). I realized a 350 SRW would have gotten me to "legal", but I also didn't see much/any difference in the safety factor I was buying. So, if I was going to spend the money, I was going to get something for it; in my case, bigger brakes, 19.5in tires, a wide track front end (which, BTW, was not a consideration for me, but, having had it, I'd never intentionally select anything but, I love it!) and, of course, another set of tires in the back.

In case you'd like to read through my journey, weights before I moved up to the 450.

I wholeheartedly agree. The 450 has 50% bigger brakes than the 350. When you're towing, that makes a difference. I'll never forget coming round a bend at about 60 kmh in Okanagen, B.C., to find traffic at a dead standstill. I had to lean on the brakes, and even with those big brakes, there was pucker factor.

My trailer isn't all that heavy as fifth wheels go, but I love the extra safety factor with payload and DRW. I've got my entire family in the truck with me. Any extra hassles dealing with a DRW are definitely worth it.

I have to agree with the others here that said your dealer doesnt know what he is talking about. I have a 2019 F350 SRW Long bed with the prep package. the payload cap. is 3180 according to the door sticker, which is pretty high for 2019 SRW's. so for the dealer to say your F250 with the long bed and prep package would be 3800 plus is complete B.S. the F350 has a beefer frame, and bigger springs to give it more payload. Mine is set up for towing basically what it was built in a SRW and there is no way the F250 would be able to do more. on a side note your RV and my truck? i still wouldnt trust it as once you put the toy in the garage i would be over weight. I am glad to hear though that you got yourself a bigger truck. good luck
