Black tank flush at site or dump station?

If we pulled into a campground and the guy that was in my spot had dumped and flushed using the single spigot that we we’re going to connect our fresh water hose to the amount of “yucky stuff” that could be left on a spigot would be minuscule considering the sheer amount of clean tap water he used to flush. Add to this the fact that any residual yuckiness would be further diluted by the water in my 30 feet of hose then run through my 16,000 grain water softener then my 5 micron water filter.
In addition, for drinking water, we use a dual charcoal filter Berkey which by itself can turn lake water into drinking water.
The residual Lysol sprayed on the tap would be more harmful for you in my opinion.

At dump stations water lines are marked potable and non potable. Potable gets used on filling fresh water tanks only. Non potable is only used when dumping. If anyone does anything different should get called out for it. They would be taking a chance of getting a lot of people very sick. I have never seen anyone abusing these hoses.

Maybe it’s a state regulation in certain parts of the country? Because I don’t recall seeing those markings at any dump station at any of the 60 or so campgrounds we’ve visited in two years of full-time travels all along the entire West coast and through the entire Pacific Northwest.

    Nor have I.

In fact, I don't actually recall ever seeing potable water available at dump stations. Maybe because I just assumed it was all non-potable.

The only time I flush the black tank is when on full hookups as well. No need to make a line at the dump station. If there were no line and i hadn't flushed in awhile then I will flush. I dont ever flush the back black tank. Our washer discharges into it and we use it if we have full hookups. The amount of soap and clean water that go into that tank make it show empty everytime I dump it after using the washer.

On a side note, am i missing something. What is the "orange" hose?

Orange is the standard color of a hose sold as an “RV black tank flush” hose.

    Gotcha...thanks.

I'm one of those that uses the same hose for both, I have a quick disconnect on my FW inlet and black flush, so it is east to swap or disconnect. I disconnect the flush line as soon as I turn it off so it's unlikely for anything to travel back up the hose. Besides, I'm not scared of a little germs, helps improve the immune system if you ask me. I'm sure others disagree, but everyone has their own methods and preferences.

Interesting. The "Non Potable" sign is common in the southeast.

Traveling in the north east it seems like everyone has the two separate hoses. Hard to imagine campgrounds expecting people to use the same hose the guy before him used for dumping his black tank. In fact the potable hose is set apart from the dump spot to keep from getting them mixed up.

The"Non Potable" sign is common in the Northeast as well.
Usually the "Potable Water" is near a bath station or restroom.
