Recommended drum brake tools?
Is there a recommended tool kit or individual tools needed to make changing drum brakes on the Dexter 3500lb. axles easier? I used to have some older Craftsman brake tools but lost them all in a garage fire. I could get by with flathead screwdriver and pliers, but would rather not. Anything worth buying from Harbor Freight?
I found this set on Harbor Freight for cheap -- but has anyone bought them and found out they are junk?

Any standard drum brake set would work. In my opinion, I'd rather just purchase complete brake assemblies for $30 - 50 each depending on which axle you have. 5 bolts, 2 wires and you're done, not to mention you will get new magnets as well which probably is needed by the time you need new shoes anyway.

Apparently i was off a bit on the price. I haven't looked at these in awhile, I know about 3 years ago it was $50 per wheel for my axles.

OK, thank you. You recommended in my May 2020 thread about weak brakes that LCI may agree to send me the assemblies to install myself. I am going to call them tomorrow and see what they say. I am not sure if this is a manufacturing defect that they will cover, or if it's a dealer issue when they supposedly repacked the bearings last July. It won't hurt to ask though. Whatever the resolution, I don't think I should have to pay for any parts to make it right.

I agree with you. It's always worth calling to ask. Even if LCI nor the dealer cover the cost, its certainly a good idea to replace those shoes one way or another, brake assemblies are for sure the easiest route. The link I put above was for my axles, if you look at etrailer you can choose your axle size and then look at the available options. Amazon is also a good source once you determine which axles you have. As mentioned above, looks like you have 10" axles, so should be less expensive than the link I shared.

LCI was sending replacement assemblies or covering parts cost back in 2017 because of the greasy brakes. I'd managed to get some money back for my brake parts.
