    Dometic Thermostat E4

We have a 2014 Reflection 303RLS (VIN number in our profile).

Today the Dometic thermostat started reporting code E4, which means outdoor air temperature sensor fault. We don't have an outdoor temperature sensor. The heat and A/C still work. Our thermostat was replaced for this issue at the Rally last year, and we have camped for 3 to 4 weeks since then.

Searching the internet, we have seen other reports of this issue, solved by a different thermostat. We have tried a reset and tried pulling the furnace fuse for a few minutes.

Does anyone have any other ideas for diagnostics?

We are currently on the road.

    Thanks,

    Kay and Dave

    Hi Kay and Dave (@2hams),

"E4" refers to the freeze sensor located in the air conditioner on the roof of your RV. The freeze sensor (mounted to the condenser fins) has 2 wires that plug into the control module box at the front of the air conditioner unit. If this 2-pin connector is loose you can get an "E4" error code.

    Best regards,
    ~ Janice

    Janice -

We have investigated. When the 2 pin connector is removed, you get an E5 error. Based on our research, E4 is a common problem with the Dometic thermostat. It is our understanding that Dometic has discontinued the outside temperature sensor option (for this thermostat) since not enough OEM requested this option and it was creating so many problems. Although our thermostat reports E4, it still works fine for both A/C and heat. Would it be possible to get the newer version of this thermostat? We can install it ourselves.

We also assume that you are now using a different thermostat -- visited with a couple we met at the rally last year, and they have a different thermostat.

    Thanks for all your help.

Janice or Jd I have a 2014 Solitude with two ac units with zone one, bedroom, also having a heat pump. I don't have zone one turned off but the thermostat is flashing a E4 error code, I have checked for open a circuit and they are OK so what else do I need to check? The serial # for my trailer is 573FS3829E1101270 and my cell phone # is 816-507-5876. Thank you for any information that might help me solve this issue.

    Joe N R,
Did you ever get your "E4" issue resolved? I have a 2015 Solitude 366DEN with the same issue on my zone 2 unit. It just began yesterday and I have A/C but can't clear the fault code? I am wondering if there is a duct leak that is telling the unit to work too hard? Virtually no air flow through the ducts but plenty when I open the discharge grate next to the intake...

Pop the bottom cover off that a/c and make sure the ducts are not taped over. Also make sure the divided hasn't fallen down and is taped up.

    Thanks!
Will that correct the E4 issue?

I replaced the outdoor sensor , unfortunately that was not the issue. I ended up replacing the bored on my ac/ heatpump and that resolved my E4 message on my Dometic thermostat.

Followup on an old thread. I was getting an E4 error on my 13.5 BR AC unit. Called Dometic CS 800-544-4881.

First thing the agent asked for is the mfr number (on the label). It begins with 64 and that indicates that it does not have a heat pump. E4 is a defective outdoor temp sensor - which this unit does not have. That means it is the board - PN 3313107.076. Two year warranty on this part and my 337RLS is less than one year old. They are shipping a new board today.

I can't complain about this kind of service.
