Very nice steve... congrats to you. We are travelling in a loop or circle. Starting on the West Coast in May, travelling the NorthWest and North in June/July, North/South Dakotas August, Missouri/Nebraska September heading home in October. If you find yourself in our circle of influence give a shout out, maybe we can meet and compare 🍎 apples to 🍏 apples.

Welcome aboard! The U P has many points of interest. Are you looking to span the entire length into WI ?

Hi Marcy & Gary We plan 0n spending a week or so (subject to change). Then Leave the Solitude there until October? I am not sure how weather is in the UP in October. Then do some more exploring. Heading to warmer climate Nov 1st storing it Florida or Georgia. Your thoughts please..StevyG & Kathy

A week or so, the west end is our go to in the UP. Fall in the UP is awesome, timing for color is everything. Up in the Keewenau peninsula. We have never stayed in private parks in the UP so can't suggest any. McClain State Park is a good base for wandering the Keewenau. If you like forts , Fort Wilkins SP. There are some dirt roads that lead out of the FT if you like to go onto some backroads...4wd should be had for those.
Old towns are everyplace but Calumet has some very cool old buildings and also the best fudge, skip Mackinac fudge and hit the Calumet Mercantille store for some Lake Superior Mud fudge.. Research State and National Forest campgrounds, many to pick from and some even a large trailer can get into..requires thourough research though. Both Houghton and Hancock are fun towns to explore too. There is so much more you will find as you wander about.
There is also the Porkies, easy to spend a week there alone. We prefer the rustic Campground there. Both the Porkies and McClain can offer sunsets to die for if you get lucky. It's hard to beat a Superior Sunset. If you like waking up to the Loons singing Emily Lake has a wide open NFCG you can fit in. Where ever you camp be bear aware , keep a clean camp, put trash away and you should have no problems

If you like waterfalls there is a book that has good accurate info and likely you can find info on line and some awesome hikes all over the west side of the UP, some easy and some that you need to be prepared for.
2 of my favorite hikes not in the Keewenau are the Sturgeon River Gorge wilderness area and one we took out of Black River Harbor , both in that book.
A little 2 track road (might be black topped by now?) out of Baraga takes you to Pointe Abbaye for a beautiful view of Superior , great photo ops as well as peaceful and relaxing. Mining and Mineral Museums in Houghton if you're into rocks.
