    Water Heater Issue

2019 2400bh here. During the last camping trip, I noticed that the water heater wasn’t firing up on propane towards the end of the trip (worked fine the first two days). I turned it off for a few minutes, then back on and immediately went to the tank and opened the service door. I would hear a distinct “click” - which I assume was the gas valve opening. But I never heard the igniter...
So I grabbed a bbq lighter and tried to start it on my own. It would ignite for just a second, then shut back off.

Any idea what part(s) are bad, or what I need to check next?

    Thanks!

Check your connection on your DSI board.

You could also try to pull the fuse for it too, to reset the 12v system. Same thing happened to my fridge on my previous trailer, resetting the fuse fixed the issue for me.

Might be a silly question, but are you out of propane? Sometimes the simplest things get overlooked. Easy to verify flow, just light the stove.

Can you elaborate a little? Do you mean electrical (wiring) connections? Or circuit board connections (soldering)?

Not a silly question at all. I did verify propane by lighting the stove.

I finally had a chance to pull the fuse - no change. I also removed and cleaned the igniter. It really wasn’t dirty, but I cleaned it anyway. Still no luck...

When I first flip the wall switch to “gas”, I go around to the water heater and I can hear an initial click or two, then I can hear and smell the propane flowing. What I don’t hear is the rapid clicking (sparking) of the igniter. After a few seconds of that, everything shuts down.

Is it possible for just the igniter to be bad, or is it more likely the circuit board (or whatever controls the igniter)?

    Thanks

This is a long shot, but it's a very simple thing to check, so worth a shot. Check to see that your battery disconnect switch is in the ON position. Sometimes when you're on shore power, it's hard to tell.

We had the same issue with our 2600RB. After months of warranty repairs and troubleshooting, including replacing the circuit board, it turned out to be a chip on the igniter porcelain at the bottom. It was a lucky fund by the technician. With a new igniter now on board we haven't had any more problems with the hot water tank.

I’m led to believe that 90% of the time it’s a faulty regulator. Simple solution. Good luck.
