Edisto Island State Park
We will be heading to Edisto Island, SC in a couple of weeks. Has anyone stayed there? Any recommendations for the campground or the area in general?

We've stayed at numerous SC state parks, probably some of our best camping memories. Most are water and electric only with a dump station on site. Bring some river tubes to float down the Edisto river. We havent stayed at that campground but have floated the river when we lived close to that area.

We'll have kayaks with us. I think the park has a boat landing on one of the rivers.

Reviewed on Campendium, from March
Hello-
There are two Edisto campgrounds - Beach and Live Oaks - we camped in the beach sites. We were at the far end, near the dunes, and felt the sites in the middle were better as there was some shade and less wind. There is no dump station inside either of the campgrounds - you have to go out onto Rt 174 to get to it, so you can't pull a dump wagon behind you safely...in our opinion anyway. The Live Oak campground has a boat launch area and it leads out to the St Helena Sound and the Edisto River via Big Bay Creek. The town of Edisto Beach has been extremely worried with COVID and implemented emergency orders at times, limiting access to outsiders. You may want to give the state park a call and ask what the current situation is. Shelling is great at the State park beach, biking is nice - there is a bike trail that spans the whole length up to the Wyndham property - and in general it is a pretty laid back beach area. No boardwalk, very small town-ish, one grocery store, a few souvenir shops, handful of restaurants. Pretty good chance of seeing dolphins close to the beach and pelicans. They had good wifi at restrooms - so if you are on a site in that area you will be able to pick it up. Botany Bay plantation is not far away, but may be closed due to COVID. Kings farm market is good for local produce and baked goods and fresh seafood can be purchased from Flowers seafood shop/shack, both on Rt 174. Beautiful drive into the town - live oaks make a canopy over the road. Looking on social media, there may be a detour because of a structure fire at the only hardware store along Rt 174. Call the park.2020 F-450 Lariat, CrewCab 8' bed, diesel

TS_Breezes, thanks for the info. We will be staying in the Live Oaks section of the park. I've been to Edisto many times just not the State Park. Looking forward to kayaking around the marshes and maybe catching a redfish or trout. Glad to hear about the bike trails!
