Atwood Water Heater Burn Smell electric Or propane

    Hi
Have an Atwood 6 gal electric and propane unit in our 2018 230rl. Experiencing a very strong burning smell on either gas or electric setting. It’s heating the water fine but smells like a burning hair dryer. Thoughts on what this issue May be?? Of the wiring I could see - they look fine. Thanks Rob

Have you tried blowing out the burn tube? Insects like to build their homes in there.

That wouldn't cause it on electric, would it?

We had a bad smell coming from ours earlier this year then quit working altogether. Problem was inside the cabinet at the hot water heater where the power hooks up to the heater. Two of the wires were burnt up pretty bad. Looked like they had come loose a little and had overheated. Easy fix and cheap.

Yes that what I assumed. We first noticed it while it was on electric mode. I tried the propane just to be sure it still occurred. But smells are so tricky - nevertheless it’s quite prevalent.

I also checked the black junction box where the 110v comes in to the water heater and it looked fine.

Also checked the main fused converter junction box ( front and back of unit) And didn’t see anything abnormal. Tightened all screws but they all felt snug.
