50 amp portable surge protector recommendations

Did a search and found quite a bit of discussion on locking a surge protector them and also hardwired ones. I am just looking for recommendations on decent portable 50 amp protectors. Thoughts?

I used a Progeessive Industries portable for awhile before I switched to their hardwired version. No complaints, saved me multiple times due to faulty campground wiring, and they have good customer service based on what other people here have mentioned.

Whatever you get, make sure it's an actual EMS, not just a surge protector.

We also have the portable Progressive EMS, has helped us in a few situations where there could have been expensive damage. It malfunctioned once, had good service on a phone call to Progressive, sent a new unit. We have had over six years of use, and we are using it on our 2020 Solitude S, originally bought for 2014 Reflection 337.

In that case, Steve, it looks like you need to update the rig in your signature. Congratulations!

Another vote for the Progressive. We have the portable unit. I keep a mid-strength chain locked to the locking ring, wrap the chain around the smallest part of the pedestal, then lock the chain to itself. As to the portable unit versus the hard-wired, I prefer knowing what the electrical condition is before I hook up. I test the pedestal as one of the first things when I pull into a site. Once I’ve checked it, the water, and the slide clearances, I level from side-to-side and unhook.

We had one fail, early in the life of our current trailer, and a call to Progressive resulted in some quick testing and a replacement unit sent out the same day. Since we were only a couple of days away from our next trip, I ordered the same unit from Amazon, for two-day delivery. The new unit from Progressive also arrived prior to our departure, so we took both along with us. I considered returning the one to Amazon that I hadn’t opened, but decided to keep it, as a backup. The cost of one hook-up to bad juice is much more than the cost of the unit that I keep “for insurance” in case I were to have another failure down the road.

I may be an outlier here, but I have used the Camco Power Defender for 2 seasons and I'm happy with it. It has broken power to my unit at high (heat/AC use) use periods in a campground with crappy service that was being taxed. They had signs up asking everyone to run 1 AC only, and all fridge and water heaters were asked to be on LP.... I lost power and realized that my Power Defender cut me from the grid due to voltage dip. It restored the connection on its own a short time later.

50 amp portable surge protector recommendations

Thanks for all the responses. Follow up question. I have a 31mb (50amp) but mainly will be at campgrounds with 30 amp service but occasionally at campgrounds with 50’amp. . I don’t want to buy two but do I need to?

I have both but that is only because my first trailer was 30amp. I rarely use the 50 (don't normally need that much power) but I have it just in case.

You do NOT need two. You do need a 30amp to 50amp adapter.
