Insurance for household storage unit?
We plan to full time for a brief period, maybe a year. We are slowly downsizing putting our household goods into a local storage unit. Our insurance agent tells us that while we own our condo, our household goods are covered by the condo insurance policy. After we sell the condo, no coverage. How do full timers who store something in a storage unit insure the contents?

We are insured with USAA and domiciled in Texas, so your mileage may vary... in addition to the auto coverage on the truck, car and fifth wheel, we have a renter's policy (with VPP rider) and an umbrella liability policy. Our renter's policy covers our household goods and personal possessions in the RV and in our climate controlled storage unit - much like your homeowner's policy does now. You need to make sure your agent and/or underwriter understand that you are full-timing in an RV as exclusions and loopholes exist from state to state. We had a letter placed in our USAA file (by them) putting this understanding in writing.

We put the storage shed in my sons name, even though we pay for it, and his renters insurance he carries on his own apartment covers it.
