Sherline LM 2000 Tongue weight scale
Hello All -- I recently received my Sherline LM2000 (2000lb) tongue weight scale and was wondering if anyone had experience with it...or even an opinion.
I'm driving a 2018 F250 6.7 with the tow package. It has 2219lb payload capacity marked on the driver door sticker. My hitch has a sticker that lists 1500 lb max load.
Without the fresh water tank filled, the scale returned a pin weight of 1250lb (load on/load off...same reading about 8 times).
With the fresh water tank filled to its 60 gallon capacity, the Sherline returned a figure of 1500 lbs (again, load on/load off...same reading about 8 times).
So, filled up with water, I'm right at my hitch load limit (but well inside the tow limit of 15K...I'm pulling a 2019 297RSTS).
Should I trust the scale? Would you?
Thanks in advance, Oz.GoodOz

I have the same scale, been using it for years. But how do I know it’s accurate?
Two things. During my PDI I used it at the dealer before installing my WDH brackets and hitching up; 580lbs. I then looked at my Vehicle Weight Sheet for my trailer, 580lbs. Secondly, during our shake-down camp out I weighed again loaded for camping before hitching up, about 600lbs, we never carry fresh water. I then visited a CAT scale and weighed. Tongue weight was 660lbs. Andersen hitch weighs a little under 60lbs. I think it’s pretty accurate IMHO.Last edited by Tigger1; 08-03-2020 at 06:36 PM.

That's pretty close (I didn't have my bars on when I weighed)...I'm sure there is some overhead on that 1500lb rating. I've been holding off on boondocking because of wondering if I was overweight. But I have accidentally towed 40 miles in the past with a full water tank (plum forgot it was in there). I just may try it now...on purpose!
Thanks for your reply. OzGoodOz

Yah...I was surprised that it was that heavy because I really don't feel like we've overloaded the inside...but it is what it is, I suppose. I have two lead acids on the front as well...soon they will be Lifepo4 (I suck at wet batteries).
I'm going to trust that little thing. Thanks!GoodOz

The only Sherline available on Amazon was a 5000 lb unit so I bought it and then ordered a good quality 2000 psi liquid-filled gauge, and also a 1000 psi. The “scale” is simply a hydraulic cylinder and will be as accurate as the gauge you use with it. Keep in mind a gauge is most accurate at mid span. For my 2600RB the tongue weight is right at 600 lbs so I’m using the 1000 psi gauge for the best accuracy. As a mechanical engineer I like to measure things so I will be experimenting with the Sherline.

Sounds like an after market receiver is in the cards.
