    Reversing the Hitch Handle?

Buying a new truck means having to buy new bling, ...err, essentials to go on it. High on my list is a tonneau cover.

The problem is the hitch handle. it's aimed upwards at a slight angle, and extends above the sides of the bed a couple of inches. It would clearly interfere with the underside of the cover.

I see the handle is attached to a lever in the hitch mechanism with two bolts. If I remove the bolts and flip the handle over, the end will now point rearward and, more importantly, downward, away from the tonneau.

Does anyone know of any problems, drawbacks, or reasons not to do this?

Wouldn't think so but I also know of some who have just cut the handle a little shorter. Still worked fine and was then below the cover. Just another thought.

I had the handle pointed towards the back in my last truck, and with my current truck with the dually fender it was easier to have it point towards the front. Just unbolt it and turn it where it is convenient, and it will be fine.

I cut about 2" off the handle of my Curt hitch, works just fine and doesn't interfere with the cover.

Depends on the hitch. I have a Draw-Tite slider and if I turn the handle over it interferes with the slide control lever, otherwise it works fine.

I flipped mine over to clear my bed cover. No problems. This is on the Reese Elite series hitch for the Ford Puck system. I have a Truck Covers USA rolling bed cover.
