PSA... From an Auto Slider to a Fixed Hitch
A good friend of ours has a SOB 5th wheel, and just upgraded from a short bed truck to a long bed dually. In the old truck, they had a pullrite auto slider if memory serves. When they got the long bed, the slider was no longer needed, so they sold it and bought a B&W Companion. Well, long story short, they were unaware (or just spaced it) that they had to remove the wedge(?) from the pin box. They towed their 5'er a few miles and absolutely destroyed their brand new B&W! A saving grace was the king pin did not come loose from the jaws. On a side note, B&W did help them out and gave them a huge discount on a replacement top portion, the bottom portion was unharmed. Before you bash our friends, they are very intelligent people and well educated, just not real RV or towing savvy. I felt bad for them. Fortunately, there was minimal damage to the pin box and it is serviceable.
Bottom line is if you go from a auto slider hitch to a fixed hitch, remove the wedge!
