We need to install a more reliable water pump. Any takes?

Our GD is barely a year old and it needs its third water pump.
Is there something better than stock out there?
    Thanks.

My guess is something else is wrong if you are having that kind of failure rate. Air leak, flow restriction or low voltage would be my guesses.

    Don’t be dismissive.
    They crack.
    They leak internally
    They don’t fully shut off
They allow backflow which in turn creates constant on an off.
    They just plain fail.
    They suck.

My water pump is acting squirrelly. I'm planning to run through these steps: https://axleaddict.com/rvs/rvwaterpump. I do think it's worth putting your multimeter on the pump leads and checking that water flows in freely. Apologies if you already did, but that's some pretty bad luck of there isn't an underlying issue. I doubt the pump is what you or I would pick on our own, so I'm curious to see the other replies.

    Water pump

Not being dismissive here but your experience is not typical. Three pumps in one year is very unusual. These pumps usually last for years. You may be disappointed if you don’t trouble shoot the pump for possible other issues before you replace it.

That being said, maybe try a marine supply store. The same 12v pumps are used on boats in a very harsh environment (Offshore boating).

I'll agree with others who advise checking the rest of the system thoroughly, but I'll also agree with you that yellow Lippert pump (if that's what you have) that GD has used in so many of its trailers is pure junk.

We replaced ours a while ago with a SHURflo 4008-101-E65 3.0 Revolution Water Pump - an instant and big improvement.

    Caveats:

    1. It's an older model (that has been installed in hundreds of thousands of RVs) but is now replaced with new models,

    2. We don't push it very hard - well under 30 days per year of boondocking, and

    3. I have occasionally seen people reviewing it unfavorably.

However I've been delighted with it so far - pumps with more power and reliability than either of the two yellow Lippert pumps I've owned did. Sucks antifreeze from a bottle like a champ - it was a struggle to get the Lippert pumps to do that.

There are folks here who have spent several times the price of that pump on marine-market pumps - the name Jabsco has come up. Here's a site to start looking in that market, but note that the less-expensive ShurFlo pumps are prominent in that market too.

    https://www.westmarine.com

    Good luck with your choice.

Agree your experience is not typical. Do not discount the responses that something else may be going on.

If you don't have a ShurFlo, get one and be done with it. They last for years.
