greystone fireplace trouble
I need a little advice from some of you experts before I try to tackle an issue with my fireplace. We just took our new 369RL out for the first time this week. Most everything is working well except the fireplace. It bounces up and down, and when it does break out of that mode, it rolls backward to where the flame is going down instead of up. I think this is probably something I can fix, but was wanting to know if anyone else has advice on dealing with this problem before I tear in to it.
Thanks
Ron

Hi Ron,
I can't offer any advice on this, because I have never had to delve into one. But, I am curious as to how they work.
If you end up digging into yours, could you post a few pictures along the way for those of us who will likely have to get into something similar, one of these days ?
Thanks

I haven't had that specific problem, but.......
Mine stopped working, so I had to remove it. (Didn't want to take the 5W back to the dealer, so I just took the fireplace out.)
There is a strip of trim, 3 sided, on the front. Use a screwdriver of both sides at the bottom to push it up a little. The trim piece will then lift off.
There was one screw on each side, holding the frame in the cabinet. Remove those and the unit will come out. It is plugged into 110V in the back on the floor. There are some removable panels/covers on the back (and maybe sides) of the unit. I didn't mess with those, just took it to the dealer, and GDRV sent a new one.
When I took the new one out of the box, and tested it before installing it in the cabinet, one of the bulbs had fallen out. I removed the cover where the bulbs are and replaced it.
Simple process to reinstall it in the cabinet.
It sounds like yours just has the flame thingy that has come loose. I suspect if you removed more of those panels on the back you can get to it.

Thanks for the info. I will probably get into it next weekend. I don't want to take my whole unit back to the dealer either for just this problem, and Rob, I will take pics along the way if I do tear into it.

I believe that the virtual flames are on a continuous driven roll of images that you're back lighting and can change the intensity of the lighting. I haven't had it out (nor do I want to) and see how anything would be accessed but I think that you may only need to switch leads on that image drive to reverse the direction.

Had mine out yesterday to see if there was anything I could do to fix my problem. There is a motor turning a rod (just like a BBQ spit). Attached to the length of the rod is aluminum foil sticking out about 1/2 inch in all directions. There are lights behind this spinning rod and the reflections and shadows caused by the spinning aluminum foil is what causes the "flames" (I wish I would have taken a picture). So my motor is simply turning the wrong direction. Problem is, there is a little tamper seal, so I'm not going to open her up and void the warranty.
Anyone know my next step? Is this a dealer issue, Greystone issue, or GD issue?

Does the wiring from the motor go to a junction box where you could access and reverse the leads?
