Fort Wilderness Campground and Resort....Disney World

Got home last night from a week at Fort Wilderness. The weather was wonderful and we had a great site, 531. Made the trip down with a stop over at the rest area at MM61 in Florida on I-10 and got an early start and made it home in one day, 816 miles one way. The wind was very bad coming home. The worst was crossing Pensacola Bay. It was coming hard out of the north hitting broad sided. The truck took a hard hit on fuel mileage fighting the wind and having to push it hard to get home in one day,(the kids had to be back at school), 7.36 MPG. Love going to the Fort and will be there again for Halloween and Christmas, if not sooner. Here is a picture of our site:

For the members that do not know about Fort Wilderness, It is a campground located on the Disney property at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. It has 799 camp sites, 409 cabins, and covers 700 acres. It is one of the best campgrounds I have personally been to. Disney offers free transportation from the campground to any of the four theme parks on property as well as bus transportation inside the park. There is a restaurant and two dinner shows located in the campground.

I rode around the campground several times and only saw one other Grand Design, a Reflection in site 1831 from Michigan. Never did see the owner to try and say hi. So if they are a member here, Hi, sorry I missed you.

We also camped at Fort Wilderness the last week of January. It was our first trip there, the maiden voyage of our Reflection 27RL, and we loved it. We were in the 900 loop. After setting up, there's no need to use your truck. Disney has a great bus and water taxi service to all their venues. The campground had a wonderful bike path. We even biked to the Wilderness Lodge for lunch one day. At night there is a campfire sing along with Cowboy Anthony and Chip and Dale. A fun time for all. You can even watch the fireworks from the Magic Kingdom from Clemintine Beach, as well as the Electric Light Pagent. The dinner buffet at Trails End was awesome.

We did get to meet the couple from Michigan. They were there for an extended stay at Fort Wilderness. We did tell them about the Grand Design Forum and the Rally at the end of August. We were surprised at how many Snow Bird Campers make their winter retreat at Fort Wilderness.

Looking forward to meeting everyone at the Rally. See you in August.
