Awning mount
We have a 2017 2600RB. The awning mounts to a metal strip attached to the trailer. This strip has the "rain gutters" at each end. Anyhow, the strip is separating from the trailer body at each end. Anyone know how the strip itself attaches to the trailer. Is it screwed in someplace or just glued on? Thanks.

Its screwed in along the top. You might get away with upsizing the stripped screws, but be careful. The metal backing strip behind the fiberglass is very thin. There are numerous reports on this an several fixes. Do a search here and over at the other GD forum.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I don't believe the areas I mentioned had any screws. I'll look more closely.

Molly rivets will fix it. Remove screws in are pulling away. Drill slightly larger hole and insert molly rivets. I just done this Saturday. I replaced 8 screws on each end. Seems to be secure now.

@cuav8r these incredibly-expensive Oscar rivets are close to or the same as the ones used by Grand Design when it rivets awnings onto trailer walls, which it does / did on some of its models. A few people here have used them to repair screwed-on awnings that came loose like yours.

(You can ignore the Amazon description promising that they have 8 super-bright LEDs and other features they don't have. You might think that for the price they SHOULD include those things but they dont. )Last edited by boyscout; 08-31-2020 at 12:25 PM.

That's awesome, thanks. I have an old gun for pop rivets, will that work?

Thanks. I don't know enough about them myself to compare them, but some of the most-experienced people that used to hang around here - people well-connected to Grand Design's technical folks - specifically recommended the Oscar rivets.
Over to @cuav8r to decide what's best!Mark - 2018 Solitude 310GK - 2017 F-350 diesel SRW short box - Pullrite Superglide hitch
