Seeking advice on which Interstate to travel

We are leaving soon on a trip to Union Illinois from The Atlanta area.
leaving Nashville we have 3 choices of Interstates I-57, I-65 or I-69.
I am leaning toward I-57 since it goes thru fewer cities.
Any advice on road condition or best route is welcome?
    Thanks in advance:
    Bob A.

P.S. I hope this is the proper forum

I agree with you about going I-75 to Chattanooga, I-24 to Nashville and Paducah--catching I-57 going north west of Paducah.

I've driven that route a couple of times in the last year or so. Very quiet.

My only suggestion is to stage your time where you do not to go through Nashville during rush hour.

Just be aware that the I-75/I-24 split is a huge mess right now due to major construction. Just make sure you are not hitting that at 7 - 8 a.m. or after 4:30 p.m. Follow the signs and you will be fine other than the rough roads.

Since you guys are familiar with NW Georgia and NE Alabama, would
it be worth my time to go to Trenton, GA and pick up I-59?
Does I-59 and I-24 have a good intersection?
We go to Cloudland Canyon so I am familiar with how to get to Trenton.
I am always willing to drive a reasonable # of miles to avoid cities and
as has been mentioned Chattanooga is a mess right now.
    Thanks for your help:

I would stay I-75 N, but just understand that the interchange is a little messy. If you are not in a hurry and get in the left lanes you will be fine. Can always check when you head this way to see what traffic is like.

I live about 35 miles from Union and pull our 5er's to SW Florida and back every year, including the general route you'll be traveling. I've tried a number of different ways to avoid the bumpy road on that stretch of I24 from the TN/KY state line to Paducah. What I've finally decided is that I'll live with the uneven highway on that shorter stretch so I don't have to deal with the longer bad highway of I65 from Louisville to Indianapolis. I24 and I57 are fine in southern and central IL. I get off of I57 and onto I74 at Champaign, then get on I39 north to Rockford at Bloomington. Going that route, you can stay on I39, and then take US 20 east to Marengo/Union. That avoids the much busier tollways around Chicago, and limits the rougher roads and tolls in northeastern IL.

I've been thru Chattanooga a few times recently, and they're doing a good job on construction at the I-75/I-24 junction. We've scarcely slowed down. You're okay there. And Atlanta is okay if you choose your time--other than 6:00 to 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.

And I agree with I-39 as a way to get away from going thru Chicago traffic. It puts you right where you want to go--a few miles farther.

After 10 years living in Atlanta, I avoid big city traffic like the plague. Nashville's getting there as the newest boom city of The South.

I appreciate all the help with this trip.
Will go thru Chattanooga and hug the left lane, glad to hear things have improved.
I feel comfortable staying away from Chicago.
We are staying 40 miles south of Nashville and will go thru during non prime time.
I used to drive between Chicago and Madison Wisconson and I like the Illinois countryside.
Thanks to all who helped me get this trip organized, now I can relax and enjoy.

POST TRIP UPDATE---- Just want to say thanks to all of your help in plotting the best route to Marengo / Union Illinois.
Chattanooga was a little messy, Nashville is trying to be another Atlanta with its traffic.
I-74 and I-39 was a great way to avoid Chicago. They have beautiful and massive farmlands which we enjoy.
    Thanks to all:
    Bob A.

p.s. Marengo Illinois has a great place to eat. Marengo Cafe, I had breakfast there for 5 straight days.
