I second the wet vac if it went down you can suck it out.

You should be able to see the HEPV (sic) somewhere. It's a couple of plastic fittings and make sure that's not clogged. Happened to me - Wife's hair - It is a one way valve. It replaces a common P-trap type of drain. Be careful as to not use a snake or such to clean it out.. You will damage the valve. Ask me how I know

As @Sickday said, check out the HEPVO "p-trap". Not a p-trap at all, but does the same idea. I've had to clean ours out numerous times. When we first took delivery our shower would constantly backup as well. I took the HEPVO out and noticed the flap inside had inverted itself and was more of a hair trap than anything. Once I fixed that it worked great, but has needed an occasional cleaning.
